Reflection...

This Sunday:  Dress in Your "Local Villager" Best!

from Mayo Clinic:

"Laughter is good for you over the long term.
Laughter may:
Improve your immune system.
Relieve pain.
Laughter can also make it easier to cope with difficult situations.
It also helps you connect with other people.
Laughter can help lessen your depression and anxiety and may make you feel happier."

Friends -

This coming Sunday's service will celebrate JOY!
The news is pretty tough lately; we could use some laughter and joy - with a profound message.   It's top secret beyond that ... but please dress in your local "villager" best:  overalls, jeans, babushkas, straw hats, farm implements ... All will become clear when you arrive on Sunday!

In blessing,

Rabbi Chava

PS - Program Council meets this Sunday at 9 AM.  There is no 9 AM adult learning program.

Sunday Service
Sunday, April 8 -   Rabbi Chava Bahle, Hal Gurian
10:30 AM Service:  "Joy as Sabbath"

When the world challenges our highest values, how can we cultivate joy, and even some laughter?

In the words of Joseph Cleveland:

May we hear the melody of Life and find ourselves singing harmony.
May we be open to the dissonances in the Song of the Land and Its People, that we might be part of the World's urging toward Justice, Peace, and Love.
May we feel in our bones the rhythms of Life and the Land, and find ourselves dancing.

A new member orientation will take place following the service.

Sundays in April ~  preK - 8th grade

We're very excited to be continuing our "Environment Horcrux" in April!

We will spend our time engaging in lessons and stories that promote environmental stewardship, as well as considering the ways in which we can get involved in our community in this regard.  Some of the wonderful ways we will accomplish this will include working with the Landscape Committee on learning about native plants, invasive species, and planning our own Children's Garden.

Suggested reading for families/parents this month!
In April, we have a lovely poetry collection that coincides with Transcendentalists in Sunday Services.  I will be using selections from this collection in Story Wisdoms.

Poetry for Kids:  Walt Whitman, edited by Karen Karbiener, PhD -
A 2018 Notable Poetry Book for Children (National Council of Teachers of English)

Introduce your children to the beautiful words of classic American poet, Walt Whitman.  Poetry for Kids: Walt Whitman makes the work engaging and easy to understand...This collection of thirty-five of Walt's best works has been carefully curated for kids.  Each piece of work is lovingly illustrated, and are both presented and explained by New York University professor Karen Karbenier, PhD, a primary authority on Whitman's poetry.
Walt Whitman includes enlightening commentary for each poem, definitions of key words, and a foreword by the expert so that kids, or even parents new to poems, will understand.  Starting off with "I Hear America Singing," the collection includes excerpts from "Song of Myself," "O Captain! My Captain!", poems from Leaves of Grass, and many more thought-provoking, descriptive, and kid-friendly selections".  Go to  https://goo.gl/7Azsaj  for more information.
