Reflection...What Does it Mean to Lead a Congregation?

"If your actions inspire others to dream more,
learn more,
do more and become more,
you are a leader."
         John Quincy Adams

Friends, before I launch into my reflection, I want to say one thing that leaders must do:  communicate clearly!

So just to clarify:  the evening program here on Saturday, September 24 (film, "Crime After Crime" and discussion) begins at 6:30 PM.  It would be helpful to know if you are planning to attend.  Can you let me know?

Also, the Sunday, September 25, 9:00 AM Program Kick-Off, in fact, starts at 8:30 AM (so we have time to clean up before the service).  It is a bagel and coffee brunch and we are asking $10 per person to cover costs.  That morning, we will look together at the year ahead.  Thereafter, Sunday morning programs will meet at 9 AM.

Now onto a moment of reflection ....

This Sunday, we will install our UUCGT Board members and reflect on the meanings of congregational leadership.  "Installation" is a strange word in this context.  It seems more appropriate to an appliance!  Instead, let us consider that this Sunday we affirm the leadership of those whom we have chosen to lead the governance of UUCGT.  Their job is not only to hold the governance aspects of the organization, but also to look beyond the day to day and have a strong vision.  Our current Board is deeply committed to exploring how we live in covenant together, so we can best support them by learning our covenant and unpacking together what it means to live in convenant ... which is what we will be doing through the lens of the Six Sources in our 9:00 AM participatory learning programs!

It all fits together with such beauty!  Come and see ....

Blessings -
Rabbi Chava

Sunday Service
Sunday, September 18
10:30 a.m. Service:  "Recommitment to Community & UUCGT Board
          Installation" - Rabbi Chava Bahle
This Sunday corresponds to a Jain holiday centered around recommitment to community.  What better day to honor and install our Board leaders, hear their vision for the year and learn together about the deeper meaning of community.

Lifespan Experience  f or Children and Youth (and Families!)
Sunday Service:  10:30 a.m.

Sunday programming for Children and Youth throughout the 2016 - 2017 program year will complement the Sunday Services in our efforts to move closer to congregational thematic ministry.  This thematic calendar will be exploring the Six Source traditions, and considering wisdom from around the world.

Sundays in September:
The remaining Sundays in September, September 18 and 25, will feature lessons from the " Wonderful Welcome" UUA Tapestry of Faith curriculum for our younger children, and the youth will have an opportunity to get to know one another in fun and creative ways.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED

Lifespan Experience Committee welcomes volunteers for the 2016 - 2017 program year!  Without our volunteers, programming for all ages will not be possible.

PLEASE consider volunteering even once or twice a month in our various programs - especially in our classrooms on Sunday mornings!  Our classrooms span from preschool-12th grade, and there are lots of options for you to choose from.  Please contact Sarah as soon as possible to get involved - we currently have less than half of the volunteers needed to staff our existing Sunday morning programs for children and youth. This does not factor in anything new that we would like to offer.

Dear Dog Behind the Fence,
you really need to calm down now.
You have been barking every time
I walk to the compost for two years
and I have not robbed your house.
Relax.
