Reflection:  Bound Together

"As drops of rain that find each other and build to become a track, a rivulet, a stream, a river, a sea, so are we drawn together;
so are we fortunate to find each other;
so are we bound together, on this shared passage toward an unknown ocean and eternity."

- UU Minister, Rev. Liz Lerner Maclay

Friends, a s you will hear this Sunday at a brief service prior to our congregation's annual meeting, "Vigorous debate is essential to democracy, and fireworks are certainly a part of our revolutionary tradition. So as we gather this morning, let there be a free and unhampered exchange of ideas, questions and opinions.  Democracy is not supposed to be tame or tidy or tepid.  But as we speak, and as we listen, let us also remember this honorable legacy we're privileged to uphold and carry on, a heritage that goes back to the founders of our nation and the founders of our Unitarian faith.  Let us be worthy of the standards of tolerance, reason and civility they embodied and envisioned."  (Rev. Gary Kowalski)

This year's annual meeting will be a time of vigorous debate - annual meetings always are when there is a budget shift - but let it also be a time of remembering our congregational covenant of tolerance and civility, in keeping with the UU tradition.

My dear friend, Sara is getting married on Sunday in Chicago, so I am not able to be with you for the meeting (this has been in the works for over a year, and I am honored to be officiating), so please accept my blessing in your deliberation, discussion and voting.  I will be with you in spirit and look forward to returning to the pulpit the remaining Sundays of this month.

In blessing -
Rabbi Chava
