Indivisible Patriots Meeting
Sunday, July 8th at 11:30 am in Palmer Library
Indivisible Patriots utilizes the elected official engagement template outlined in the Indivisible Guide ( www.indivisibleguide.com ) to promote our UU values of using the democratic process to foster equality, diversity and social justice. If you are upset about recent federal policies such as the Muslim Travel Ban, the Transgender Military Ban, reversing protection for DACA participants, the separation of migrant children from their parents at the border and are interested in taking action, please join us. If you'd like to get involved with our group prior to the next meeting and/or have questions, please e-mail Karen Reimus at reimus1@aol.com .
Please Wear Your Name Tags!
Some of you probably have not been wearing your name tag because the rack was a tangled mess. Well, the name tag rack has been cleared of tags for people who are no longer attending. So no more hiding - wear your nametag proudly!

Is your name tag lost? If so, please ask a greeter to have a new one made.
The July Quarterly Magazine is
Now Available!
The July 2018 Quarterly Magazine is available for viewing on our website. Hard copies will also be available at the Happenings Table in the Core Area after services. This issue includes a section on how members and friends can participate in Fellowship life through volunteer involvement. There is a new section, "What Gives Meaning to Your Life?" We hope to make this a permanent sector of the magazine and we encourage members to reflect on this question and submit articles for the next magazines. http://uufsd.org/wp2/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/July-2018-Mag-pdf.pdf
Backpack Project June 10 th - August 19 th

Visit us in the core area to donate to our annual summer backpack project. Our goal is to distribute 100 filled backpacks to children in need in our community.

Community Resource Center - Children in Transitional Housing in the Domestic Violence Program.
Encinitas Union School District – Students in need in our local elementary schools.
Stand Up For Kids – Homeless and at risk youth.
Casas de Luz – Serving students in our sister program in Tijuana

We are collecting backpacks (new and gently used) and school supplies to fill them. Cash donations are most appreciated as it allows us to shop for the specific items needed.

In order to make this project a success we still need volunteers. The time commitment can be as little as covering a shift at the table on a Sunday. This is an excellent way for newcomers or families with children to get involved. Please contact Liz Young at  thefouryoungs@sbcglobal.net  if you can help out with this summer project.
Book Club News
The evening book club will discuss The Art of Memoir by Mary Karr on July 9th at 7:00pm.

The daytime group is reading a larger book than usual, so we are not meeting in July. Read the novel Pachinko by Min Jin Lee and join us on August 16th at 9:30am to discuss it. (Please note NEW TIME for the daytime group.)

Come and let us know what you've been reading this summer!

Each group meets in the Palmer Library here on the UUFSD grounds.

Weekly Call To Action

Promote the inherent worth of every person by demanding accountability for sexual abuse in immigrant detention. Call your US Senator with this call script: "Hi. My name is [NAME] and I'm a constituent from [CITY]. I'm calling to ask Senator [HARRIS/FEINSTEIN] to offer amendments to the FY 19 Homeland Security Bill, such as preventing ICE from destroying records on sexual abuse and requiring DHS to publicly release data on allegations of abuse within its agencies." Kamala Harris (202)224-3553/(619)239-3884; Dianne Feinstein (202)224-3841/(619)231-9712.

Amazon Smile - The Easy Way to Fundraise for UUFSD

Many members and friends make purchases through Amazon. But not many use “Amazon Smile” to make their purchases.

Amazon Smile is a way to raise money for the fellowship while doing your shopping. Amazon will donate 0.05% of each and every purchase you make to the fellowship. All you need to do is to go to smile.amazon.com and type in UUFSD. ( Note: We are now listed by our anagram. )

For all your future purchases go to Amazon Smile and it will automatically show that UUFSD is your beneficiary.
View the UUFSD GVP Resolution!
Please come to the Core Area after services on Sunday and look at the approved GVP Resolution on the kiosk. This is a meaningful first step in articulating what UUFSD can, should, and could do to overcome the issue of Gun Violence.
There is time to ask what is next and how can i participate? Also, are there things we need to consider moving forward?
Let us all be part of the solution. Contact Steve Bartram at gvp@uufsd.org with any questions or comments.
Dear Ones,

I will be flying to Tucson to participate in this call to justice on August 3-5. Yes, I'm a little trepidatious about walking 3+ miles in the desert heat carrying gallon jugs of water. But the thought that the water I leave might just save someone's life will keep me going. If you would like to support this effort please consider donating some airline miles or making a donation to No More Deaths or the UU Service Committee. Thank you!

Gratefully, Rev. Meghan
