We're thrilled to welcome genius winemaker Christian Roguenant to Schaefer's Boundary Room for a tasting and discussion of his ever-growing stable of winery projects from California's Central Coast. Please note this is scheduled for Wednesday night not Thursday.
Christian is an international craftsman, and quite a character. He is a native of Burgundy, has made wine on five continents, speaks both French and Spanish, drives a Porsche, and can eat an unheard of amount of oysters in one sitting. And he is a winemaking genius.
In 1998 Christian was recruited by longtime Edna Valley growers Jim and John Niven to create Burgundian-style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from their Firepeak Vineyard in San Luis Obispo and the rest, as they say, is vinous history.
Since then, Christian and the Niven family have spun off a series of boldly imaginative wine projects including Tangent, which focuses entirely on crisp, high acid, mineral-driven white wines and Trenza, where Christian gets to play with with exotic red and white blends from (mostly) Spanish varietals. And if that's not enough, there's Zocker -- Gruner Veltliner from the Niven's cool climate Paragon vineyard.
We love nothing better than putting dynamic wine personalities like Christian in front of our great wine-loving customers. We certainly hope you can make some time this Wednesday night to chat with Christian and try his amazing wines.
Christian will be pouring Zocker Gruner Veltliner, Tangent Albarino and Ecclestone (a mind-boggling blend of Pinot Gris, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Riesling, Muscat, Grüner Veltliner and Albariņo) Trenza Rosado (a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Albariņo) and Baileyana Pinot Noir.
