3rd Annual Golf Tournament Recap |
On Thursday, July 16th Probstein Golf Course was once again host for the 3rd Annual United 4 Children Golf Tournament presented by Slay Industries, Peabody Energy and Express Scripts. Other generous support was provided by First Bank, Charah and East Side River Transportation. Nearly 20 teams of golfers set out for this spectacular day which began with an amazing box lunch courtesy of Gamlin Whiskey House. People really enjoyed the handmade chips. On a shot gun start, the beautifully landscaped course provided some tough dog-leg right shots, however, all in all, teams played well. Throughout the day special hospitality carts provided players with snacks and our own unique beverages along with cigars. A wild challenge on the course was DRIVING your ball into the hole using a remote control dump truck! Players also got to bid on exciting silent auction items. United 4 Children raised $24,000 from this event which will allow us to continue to improve the social, emotional, physical, and educational well being of our children by enriching the knowledge of families, teachers, and caregivers. Special thanks to our Board of Directors, volunteers and staff for making the day special. Thanks also to the Golf Committee which included: Glen Slay, Mike Mueller, Dominick Lesinski and Jerry Schaefer. Patti Short our Event Director pulled the tournament together in expert fashion.

Kids International Early Childhood Education Center is happy to announce that our NAEYC Accreditation was renewed until 2020. We are very excited and proud to have obtained the reaccreditation. Our entire staff works very hard to achieve and maintain accreditation. We would like to thank United 4 Children and Anita Stover for helping us through this lengthy process. We used the benefits through our Comprehensive Affiliate Membership Service Unit benefits for a Mock Accreditation visit. Anita took on the role of NAEYC assessor and toured our center. She used the NAEYC Criterion to "inspect" the center. She provided valuable feedback for each classroom and the center. This was used to strengthen various areas within the center. Thank you so much United 4 Children! |

Preschool:
Imagine drawing a home, close your eyes (or even grab paper and a pencil!) and imagine or draw a home. Do you have the image in your head? Let me guess, it is a square house, a rectangle door, two squares for the windows and a triangle for the roof. If you decided to go really artistic you added a chimney, curtains and a sidewalk. Are you shocked at how close we guessed?
Building Sense of Community in Afterschool Programs

School Age:
Children are more successful in environments where they feel a part of the group as a whole. So...how do you make sure that all children feel a positive sense of community in your program? Foundation for a sense of community is relationships - it's true, it IS all about relationships!

If you are, then chances are you are already dehydrated. Dehydration can be a serious condition that can lead to other problems including heat stroke, headaches, fatigue, crankiness, poor concentration, and swollen feet. Dizziness and nausea are signs of overheating and decreased urination and dry mouth are the first signs of dehydration. Last, not sweating during physical activity is a red flag that you are dehydrated and developing heat exhaustion. Little ones are more susceptible to getting dehydrated faster than adults and it is our job to help them stay hydrated and healthy (
