9th Annual Lighting The Way Gala Recap

Our 2015 Lighting the Way dinner and auction gala was held Thursday, April 9th at the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis.  It was a festive occasion highlighting the contributions of Mr. Patrick Slay of Emerson, and Rev. Starsky Wilson of Deaconess Foundation.  Consistent with the vision of United 4 Children, our honorees advocate for a strong, healthy, and inclusive community where children and youth have enriching environments to reach their fullest potential.

Our generous guests witnessed firsthand the benefits of youth who participate in after school programs through a Jazz Combo from St. Louis Public School's Central Visual and Performing Arts High School.  Proceeding dinner, attendees enjoyed an exclusive youth performance of "Happy" by JRO Ministries.

Board Chair Jerry Schaefer thanked the audience for their support of United 4 Children and all of our major sponsors for the event including Slay Industries, Ameren, ESRT, Emerson, Edward Jones, Fox Family Foundation, and First Bank.

It was indeed, a festive and memorable evening.  The funds raised from the event will allow United 4 Children to continue to improve the quality and access of service for children and youth by empowering and inspiring families, professionals and the community.

Preschool:

"Team work makes the dream work" is a common saying within our agency.  How do we start teaching this to young children?  It is important to go back to some of the things we remember fondly playing as children like group outdoor games, board games, and creating different "plays" or story lines for everyone to act out.

School Age:

Summertime can be hot, lazy, and slow for school age kids.   So, if you are planning for your summer program with school age kids, make certain your program is cool, energized and nonstop activities.

Fresh Ideas

When warm weather starts to approach us, I feel inspired to eat more fresh foods.  There are always new ideas available on how to serve them.  To start, the first thing I think of is eating fresh tomatoes.  One fun way to eat them is by  making tomato mozzarella skewers with basil oil.
