10,000 SMILES to Brighten Your World!

Did you know that United 4 Children reaches over 20,000 children every year with its services, programs, and education?  This year's annual giving campaign sets out to educate the public about the great services that United 4 Children offers and gives an opportunity for those who donate to provide thousands of SMILES for the organization.

The giving campaign will combine the use of public relations materials, social media, and a retail consumer campaign that allow people to purchase SMILES at the local retailer to benefit United 4 Children.

The Annual Giving Campaign runs from November 1 to December 24.  Each week of the campaign will feature one of the 4 pillars of United 4 Children; emotional, educational, physical and social.  In the campaign, stories will be told to highlight the services that we provide and the great benefits including what your donation can do to help.

Watch for the campaign and we hope that you will give generously.  More info can be found on our website at www.united4children.org.

Introducing Literacy to Young Children

Rashaan Busn

United 4 Children

Childhood Specialist

Infant/Toddler:

Early or emergent literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write.  It encompasses all the experience, good and bad that children have had with books, language and print from birth onward.

What's Wrong?

Preschool:

Early childhood teachers play a critical role in helping to ensure that children grow and develop.  We spend many hours each week with the children in our care; we create nurturing and supportive environments; plan appropriate learning activities and build strong emotional connections.

Outdoor Play in Cool (Cold) Weather

School Age:

It is that time of year - leaves are falling and days are shorter.  The days also get colder and colder.  But when is it too cold to play outdoors?  Most centers and afterschool programs incorporate outdoor activities into the schedule.

A Little Indulgence
Michelle Stamps

Assistant Program Administrator

Traditionally, our nutrition articles include many low fat healthy homemade recipes.  While this is great, and many are quite tasty, sometimes around this time of year we just really crave those good ole indulgent high calorie homemade foods. In particular, restaurant favorites come to mind.  Going out to eat can break the bank, so I've researched and found some famous copycat recipes of some of the best well known places to go.  It's okay to indulge once in a while, as long as we keep a balance.  To view these fun copycat recipes visit http://www.recipelink.com/msgbrd/board_14/2008/OCT/32062.html
