Building off great operational results in 2016, we started the new year right, delivering the company's best ever January mainline completion factor.  Although our U.S. hubs experienced a 63% increase in moderate to severe weather compared to 2016, operational achievements and mainline records from the month included:

  • Best ever January departure performance and controllable completion factor
  • Finished first among industry peers in completion factor
  • Six days with 100% departure completion, setting a new record for the most the company has ever had in one month

We promised corporate customers top-tier performance in our 2017 Global Performance Commitment and we look forward to delivering each and every month.

We are listening to and taking action on
your feedback

Throughout the end of 2016, we surveyed more than 1,000 customers from corporate, TMC and small-medium enterprise accounts to understand the following:

      •  Current sentiment toward United and if that has changed in the past year
      •  Key drivers of account satisfaction
      •  Prioritize opportunities for continuous improvement

Overall, our Sales accounts are largely satisfied with their experience with United, with 86% of respondents saying they are as satisfied or more satisfied in 2016 versus 2015. Top satisfaction drivers included communications, alliance partnerships and better operational performance. Key opportunities include creating better value for money and better equipping our team for strategic problem-solving.

We would like to thank all participants and look forward to reporting on our progress against identified opportunities throughout the year. To see the ways in which we delivered on our promise of being the world's leading airline, click the link below.

MileagePlus named Best Overall Frequent Flyer Program for thirteenth consecutive year

For the 13th consecutive year, readers of Global Traveler, a monthly publication written exclusively for frequent business and luxury travelers, voted our MileagePlus loyalty program the Best Overall Frequent Flyer Program in the world for 2016. We have been recognized with this award every year since the inception of the GT Tested Reader Survey in 2004.

MileagePlus further solidified its standing as the airline industry's leading loyalty program with an additional win for Best Frequent-Flyer Bonus Program. The United MileagePlus Club Card from Chase was awarded as Best Credit Card and Best Credit Card Rewards Program and the United MileagePlus Explorer Card as Best Frequent-Flyer Affinity Credit Card Redemptions. We were also named Best Trans-Pacific Airline for the third straight year.

United honored as 'Eco-Airline of the Year' by Air Transport World

For the second time since launching our industry-leading Eco-Skies program, we were named the Eco-Airline of the Year by Air Transport World (ATW) magazine. We received the top honor for multiple initiatives, including becoming the first U.S. airline to begin using commercial-scale volumes of sustainable aviation biofuel for regularly scheduled flights. We offer Eco-Skies CarbonChoice, the airline industry's only integrated carbon offset program for corporate business travel.

Additionally, as part of our 2017 Global Performance Commitment, pledged to achieve a lower gross carbon footprint than our two largest U.S.-based competitors this year, as measured by carbon dioxide-equivalent per available seat-mile.
