OCTOBER NEWS FROM YOUR LOCAL UNITED WAY
Our Community. Your United Way.

What if 100 area local businesses gave $100? What sort of change could occur in our community?

United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley is looking for 100 businesses to make a pledge for our community of $100 - driving a total of $10,000 to the local charities that need it the most.

$100 can provide:
  • 11 trips to a VA Center for a disabled veteran
  • more than 5 months of meals for a home-bound senior citizen
  • 38 blankets to local disaster victims or families living in poverty
  • One free monthly book to eight low-income toddlers and preschoolers

Not only will small business owners know they are making an impact right here in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, they will also receive:
  • Company recognition through United Way's website and social media outlets
  • A "United Way NSV Supporting Business 2015-2016" window decal to display in your business' window to show your customers that you give back to your community
We need your help today to reach our goal of 100 businesses giving $100! Share this initiative with your business contacts!

Are you a small business owner? Make your $100 pledge now on our website!

The Impact of Giving to United Way at NW Works
The Impact of Giving to United Way at NW Works
One of the agencies we are proud to help support is NW Works, a local facility that enables adults with disabilities to select, secure, and sustain employment and training. Check out our video with John Brauer, the Executive Director of NW Works, and Brian, an employee at NW Works and at Firefly Cafe, sharing the impact that a dollar gift can make and what Brian's favorite job is at NW Works.

We are pleased to report that to date, the money allotted to NW Works/Firefly Cafe & Bakery, has been used to train a total of nine individuals with disabilities in the food service industry (primarily as dishwashers), and two individuals have, as a result of training, moved to a community based independent employment!
