SEPTEMBER NEWS FROM YOUR LOCAL UNITED WAY
Our Community. Your United Way.

United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley mobilized record numbers of volunteers on Wednesday, September 9th, 2015 for Day of Caring, presented by First Bank and Tri-State Nissan, to help kickoff the United Way Campaign and to complete community service projects all over the Shenandoah Valley. On this day, volunteers from area businesses, groups, and organizations came together to help others by doing fundamental projects for area non-profit agencies, community facilities, and completed a wide range of services to friends and neighbors throughout the Shenandoah Valley who are seeking assistance.

Day of Caring was a huge success with 865 volunteers, 80 local teams, and 130 community projects completed, making it the largest volunteer effort on record from the United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley. With 120 more volunteers than last year, this year's Day of Caring volunteer work hours equaled a donated dollar amount of at least $117,000 back to our community.

Day of Caring kicked off at the Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester, VA. The kickoff featured speakers from our community and the announcement that $234,488 was already raised by business Pacesetters and early leadership gifts.

Volunteers and projects from Day of Caring were featured in several local media outlets. Please explore our article in The Winchester Star, Northern Virginia Daily and our story on WHAG TV. For photos taken that day, please see our online gallery.

Businesses Fundraise for United Way
Support is coming in from businesses all over the area who have been fundraising for United Way. One longtime supporter, Trex kicked off their workplace campaign last week, sharing the United Way story and the impact of giving locally with their employees. Trex is celebrating their workplace campaign by giving away prizes, organizing blue jean Fridays and offering the chance to win paid days off in a lottery to employees who make gifts!

Other businesses like First Bank, have been fundraising through special events in addition to their workplace campaigns. Team leaders at First Bank have been offering a giving incentive where employees can make a gift to United Way to get a boss's yard covered in pink flamingos, truly making fundraising FUN!

Many area employers offer the option to make a gift to United Way through payroll deduction, making it easier to give more over a continued amount of time. Navy Federal Credit Union recently wrapped up their campaign after raising $30,597, a staggering increase of more than $7,000 from last year, due in part to the many gifts made by payroll deduction!

Does your place of business already have a United Way campaign? Are you looking for a new way for your business to connect with the community? Reach out to United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley to learn how to easily set up a workplace fundraising campaign or a special fundraising event! Be a part of the community effort to make the Northern Shenandoah Valley a better place to live!
