2011 Campaign Update

United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley has raised 75 percent of of its $6.6 million goal. "We are thrilled to have raised this amount of money so far," said Scott Ferguson, president and CEO of United Way. "It has been challenging, but I am always humbled by the people in this community who recognize our area's critical needs and come through for those men, women and children who need help and assistance. Their generousity is amazing."

Partner Agency Spotlight

Miranda Santiago, 13, has been involved with Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia since the 2nd grade, so she was thrilled when she finally had the opportunity to give back to such a great organization by volunteering as a program assistant to mentor younger girls in Troop 50173 in Harris County.

Before joining Girl Scouts, she was shy and never really thought about setting goals for her future. Girl Scouts has given her the opportunity to develop leadership skills that she will need in the future. Since joining Girl Scouts, she was chosen as the president of her Student Government Association at Calvary Christian Middle School. Not only is Miranda very involved in extracurricular activities, she maintains straight A's in school.

Through the Girl Scout program, she has learned the importance of personal responsibility, the value of
goal-setting, the spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of accomplishment. Miranda is creating a butterfly garden at Oxbow Meadows in order to receive the Silver Award, which she expects to receive by the spring. Her goal is to eventually receive the Gold Award
