POWER OF THE PURSE GRANT APPLICATIONS ARE DUE TOMORROW!!

The United Way of DeKalb County is pleased to announce that the 2017 Power of the Purse raised about $47,000 to fund programming for women and children in DeKalb County. This year Power of the Purse welcomed over 500 attendees, 25 corporate sponsors, 110 purses donated, and more than 15 additional supporters through door prizes, VIP raffle and miscellaneous donations. A new VIP experience was available for dinner attendees.  VIP members were able to enjoy special hors d'oeuvres, complimentary wine, and preview dinner purses for an hour before the dinner event began.

Power of the Purse grants are now available to the community for the dollars raised. Any organization submitting a grant proposal must be a non-profit agency serving DeKalb County, be incorporated for a minimum of 3 years, and must meet all eligibility requirements outlined in the grant applications. A priority will be given to applications for programming that focuses on early education, women and children. Applications will be submitted on the United Way of DeKalb County's website via an online application. Grant applications will be due on Friday, July 28th at 5 PM. The online application is currently available and can be found at http://www.unitedwaydekalb.org/2017-power-purse-application.

An additional $2,495 was raised during a special mobile ask that was used to purchase books and supplies for children attending Kindergarten Countdown Camp! This summer, DeKalb Central Schools and Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community Schools have two classrooms totaling 80 students. With the help of dollars raised during Power of the Purse, we were able to provide each child with the boost they need to hit the ground running when schools re-open their doors in August! Children will receive a book each day they attend, bookcases for their new home library, backpacks filled with school supplies, and 80 hours of instruction with a certified teacher.

If you have any questions please contact Community Impact Coordinator, Kirby Cool at kirby@unitedwaydekalb.org or 260-927-0995 ext. 11.
