Universal Design for Learning and the Arts Across the Curriculum

 Professional Development for Teachers

VSA Kentucky and the Kentucky Arts Council have partnered to offer this professional development opportunity: Universal Design for Learning and the Arts Across the Curriculum.

Who should attend?
Classroom teachers in all grade levels; specialists, generalists and interventionist educators; teacher's aides; teaching artists; and anyone interested in ensuring the success of all students will benefit from this professional development training.

What does it cost?
This professional development is FREE! Please bring your own brown bag lunch. Bottled water and beverages will be provided.

What is the content?
VSA Kentucky Master Teaching Artist, Pat Sturtzel, and Mary Claire O'Neal, VSA Kentucky Program Director, will work with teachers on incorporating the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) into their classroom. The UDL "provides a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone--not a single, one-size-fits-all solution, but rather flexible approaches that can be customized and adjusted for individual needs." Participants will be introduced to and work through a Universal Design for Learning Checklist. Attendees may bring their own lesson plan based on a "hands-on" activity that interfaces with their curriculum to add adaptive strategy ideas to the UDLs in progress. VSA Kentucky and the Kentucky Arts Council will also provide information on how schools and teachers can apply for funding of arts in education programs.

What will I take away?
Attendees will increase their skills and knowledge in adaptive strategies for children of all abilities and have a greater understanding of the Universal Design for Learning document and its implementation. At the end of the day you will also have received information about grants  and programs that funds arts activities that span all classroom subjects. Every participant will receive a PD certificate from VSA Kentucky documenting this training in adaptive instruction methodologies.

This is awesome.
