How To Make Your Way Around The Color Wheel Without Getting Dizzy!

What is the first thing we notice about anything? Color...of course! We all have a favorite one, it's our first impression, it sets the mood and can elicit an emotional response. Yet how many of us truly understand color theory or the "legendary" color wheel. This will be our first installment in a series devoted to unlocking the mysteries of color. Future articles will explore interesting color combinations and how to choose colors to achieve the look and feel you desire.

 

Our discussion of color, of course, begins with the color wheel. Some of us have come across color wheels at our favorite craft store only to be scared away by its complexity. Some color wheels have two or three internal dials with a multitude of colors and numbers that would make a math majors' head spin. Wait a minute....numbers...there are no numbers in color!!!! That's why I became an artist, so I wouldn't have to deal with numbers!!! So, in my opinion the best color wheel is the simplest color wheel. The one pictured above is my favorite.
