A Season of Thanks
We're thankful for an amazing community of staff, volunteers, and customers. We're also thankful for the Deschutes Public Library Foundation, which provides sustainable funding for library programs and services not funded through taxes. Funding from the Foundation goes directly to support early literacy programs, free author and cultural programs, and outreach to underserved children and seniors in Central Oregon. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization, gifts to which are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. If you'd like to contribute to the Deschutes Public Library Foundation, you'll find more information here.
Join Us for Cosmic Conversations
This December we're kicking off a new monthly lecture series that will take us to the edge of our solar system and beyond. Cosmic Conversations takes place at 6:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month and is led by  Robert Grossfeld, a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador and manager of the Oregon Observatory at Sunriver. We'll kick off the series with a look at Saturn and the Cassini Mission on Dec. 6 at the Downtown Bend Library. Join us and learn something that's out of this world!
Holiday Book Sales
Find great books at great prices--just in time for the holidays! The Friends of the Bend Libraries hold their Holiday Book Sale on Saturday, Dec. 2, while the Friends of the Redmond Library have their half-off book sale on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2. Click the links for more information about both sales.
Brush Up Your Resume & Job-Hunting Skills
Are you looking for employment? Is your resume up-to-date? Would like to have an expert review your current resume and provide suggestions for changes? Learn how you can update your resume to get the job you want during this interactive workshop. Staff from Goodwill Job Connection and Deschutes Public Library will share information about their career services; give pointers about best practices for the job search and creating resumes; and work with you to review your resume and provide suggestions. Dec. 7, Downtown Bend Library. Register online here.
Poetry, Writing, and Collage Playshop
Here's an invitation to tap the power of your creative well-spring. Enjoy an evening of contemplation and adventurous play led by dedicated "poetry instigator" Krayna Castlebaum.  Selected poetry, along with other writing prompts, will serve as springboards for creating short poems or quotes. You'll make at least one seasonal card, using your own words and incorporating simple collage elements.  Free, but space is limited and registration is required for this Dec. 4 playshop. Register online here.
December is a Musical Month at Your Library
Musical performances from groups across Central Oregon will serenade the community throughout December. Enjoy the harmony of a barbershop quartet, a four-voice a cappella group, a jazz choir, and more---the perfect soundtrack to the winter season! Find a list of performances along with times and locations here.
Thank You, Volunteers!
We love our volunteers! We're luck to have a dedicated team of volunteers at all of our libraries. They do everything from shelving books to finding lost items. You'll find a new volunteer featured on our Facebook page every Tuesday through January. If you'd like to volunteer,  check out our website  for more info.
