Summer is off to a great start at the University of South Carolina. We congratulated our recent graduates and are set to welcome our newest Gamecock students and families when New Student Orientation begins later this month.

Your student should expect to see some changes to the Russell House when they return in August. Carolina Food Co. has just begun the first phase of renovations to its dining facilities. Once fall semester begins, students will have access to a full-service Chick-Fil-A, Panera Bread, a Gamecock General convenience store and much more.

Don't forget to start making plans for Family Weekend 2018: Oct.

Family Talking Points
Summer can be a transformational time for all college students and families play a critical role. Incoming students begin widening their boundaries at home and dream of their college experience. Rising sophomores are likely relearning what it is like to live under your roof after returning home from college. The juniors- and seniors-to-be are taking advantage of opportunities to enhance their future goals, like working with internships or taking summer classes.

Use this summer as an opportunity to meet your student where they are, in terms of their anxieties and excitements for the future, to prepare them for their next semester at USC.

  • If your student is starting at Carolina in the fall, talk with them about their dreams and expectations of their first year as a Gamecock and remind them that they are not alone in this journey; it will set the stage for a successful first year.

  • For those students entering their sophomore year, continue discussing the goals that your student has for their future. Whether this past year went great or not as your student hoped, remind them of the campus resources available to them once they return in the fall.

  • For the rising juniors and seniors, this may be their last summer in your home or without a full-time job to plan around. Use this time to create new family memories and traditions, while celebrating how far they've come in their journey at Carolina.

News from the Bursar's Office
Summer 2018 Bills
Summer tuition bills are now available through Self Service Carolina (SSC) for students who have registered for classes. The tuition payment deadline is Monday, June 4 at 5 p.m., regardless of the start date for the class. If you are mailing a payment, be certain to do so well in advance to meet the deadline. Students who will use 529 education savings and trust funds should send a copy of their tuition statement to their plan administrator immediately to ensure funds are disbursed and arrive before the deadline.

Payment plan options are available if needed and can be processed via SSC. Please note that payment is due immediately for students who register after the payment deadline.

Payment Deadline for Fall 2018
Tuition and fees are due by Aug.15 at 5 p.m. Bills can be viewed via Self Service Carolina (SSC) in mid-July. Bills are only available when a student has registered; for incoming students this will be after they attend New Student Orientation. The mailed payment deadline is Aug. 6. We strongly suggest sending mailed payments as express mail if necessary to meet the deadline.

The 2017-2018 tuition and fee schedule can be used to estimate the fall 2018 total. Please keep in mind, however, these rates are subject to change. Finalized tuition and fee information for the 2018-2019 academic term will be posted following the Board of Trustees budget approval in late June.
