S&OP Best Practices

UPS Headquarters recently hosted an APICS Atlanta dinner meeting, where Sara Park (VP, Planning & Logistics Capabilities) of The Coca-Cola Company shared excellent S&OP insight.

Sara's team had recently conducted a large S&OP initiative at her organization that led to a few impressive results:

-- Improved Forecast Accuracy 1.4%

-- Decreased Inventory Volume (in $) by 3.4%

--Improved OTIF by 2.5%

Keep in mind: given the size of the enterprise, these are significant improvements. As Sara's team reflected on what drove the project's success, she shared these key learnings:

1: Simplify, simplify, and then simplify.

2: Be Flexible. Go with the Flow. Evolve.

3: Be Patient. Be Kind. But be Tenacious!

4: Constantly ask for Feedback (and don't be surprised when you get it!). And maintain Balance.
