Meanwhile, Back at Café du Monde
Fundraising event for CAPOC and our OC Food Bank

Save the Date: October 1, 2017 (Sunday)
Location: TBD

We are kicking of our Hope for the Holidays giving celebration by hosting Orange County's first every "Meanwhile, Back At Cafe Du Monde" event!

This is a Unique, Festive Monologue Event About the 2nd Universal Language - FOOD and How Our Lives Revolve Around It! Chefs, Restaurant and Food Business Owners, our Board and Senior Staff, and Foodies are invited to share their 5-7 minutes holiday food stories. Up to 8 stories will be presented.

While this event has been presented across the county, with more than 2250 people sharing their life stories about food, our event is unique in that we will be specifically focusing on how food impacts our lives during special family holidays and the impact it can have on our community's poorest residents.

The common thread is FOOD - an important part of our lives, our culture, and our personal stories. The event is a little bit of theater, a lot about cuisine, and a true cultural celebration of how food is a central part of our lives.

OC PICH Evaluation & Dissemination Forum

The Orange County Partnerships to Improve Community Health (OC PICH) is a three year CDC-funded project working in Anaheim, Garden Grove and Santa Ana on policy, systems and environmental change to decrease preventable chronic disease through interventions that aim to increase active transportation, physical activity and access to healthy food and beverage options. The project includes 11 funded partners and a myriad of stakeholders who have learned that integrating spaces for collaboration and project interventions are an important element for successful health interventions and a critical component of addressing health disparities in under-served communities.

The purpose of the Community Forum is three-fold: (1) to highlight evaluation findings and the learning from each partner agency in an interactive setting that demonstrates the importance of integrated spaces for sustainable action in policy, system and infrastructure change between Schools, Cities, Non-Profit Organizations, Evaluators, and Public Agencies; (2) to focus on how to gather resources and build a network to continue to sustain success; and (3) to disseminate best practices and effective local intervention strategies that contribute to the national evidence base in chronic disease prevention.

Please join us as we share lessons learned from our various interventions over the past three years. Topics include park improvement, physical activity, active transportation, nutrition, equity, and evaluation. Continental breakfast will be provided. We hope to see you there!

The forum will take place Friday, May 12th, 2017 from 7:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center.

Canstruction Orange County

You won't want to miss this year's 10th Annual Canstruction Design-Build Competition! Canstruction Orange County combines the fun of a design/build competition with an ingenious way to help feed hungry people. Local prominent architectural, engineering, planning, and design firms, and students mentored by these professionals, create phenomenal structures built entirely out of canned food. The structures go on view to the public at South Coast Plaza (Bear Street side), John Wayne Airport (baggage level), and ARTIC throughout the month of September in conjunction with the Festival of Children.
