Greetings!

"Knit Lit", our new book club, is a success. We had our first gathering last night with over 15 attending.  If you missed it, no worries, we will meet the last Wednesday of each month from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.  The book for this month with directions will be highlighted below.
Things are picking up at Hillcreek.  We have our class schedule posted, the Open House coming up next week, a class with returning instructor Gail Hubbell and Jessica Dekker, a former teacher at Hillcreek is our new "Knit Coach".  Please check the "Upcoming Events" section below for information and a bio on Gail and Jessica.

The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood is our current selection.  Please read it by our next meeting and come with questions.  Tina, our leader, suggested we think about what the writer was trying to accomplish by writing certain sections as she did and how her words effect us in our lives.

Jessica has returned!
Many of you may remember Jessica Dekker.  She moved from Columbia soon after I purchased the shop. She was a frequent instructor here prior to that time.
She is a long-time crafter and serious lover of all things yarn.  Shortly after graduating from college, she realized a 9 to 5 office job was not her thing, so she began at a yarn shop in Michigan. Since she had been knitting and crocheting from the age of 8, she knew this was her element.  She has picked up a wealth of knowledge and technical skill from helping countless customers with all sorts of projects, and has hundreds of hours of teaching under her belt.  Most recently, Jessica spent two years managing Looped Yarn Works in Washington, DC, where she got to meet traveling fiber enthusiasts from all over the world.  She also made her debut as a knitwear model for Capitol Knits, a creative, historical approach to knitting in and touring DC.  A family move this summer brought Jessica back to the Midwest, where she's embracing the quieter life, honing her design skills, and breaking in a new sewing machine.  You can find her on Ravelry under the name "jessibean" and follow her blog here (http://makingthisnow.wordpress.com/).

Is this ever you?  If so, you might benefit from our two sessions below.

Knit Coach with Jessica starting October 17
Wednesday 3:30-5:30pm

Do you have a project that's just out of shape? Do you need to stretch your knitting muscles and tone your skills? Bring something you're stuck on or a question that's been bugging you, and Jessica will help you figure out where to go with it. Knit coach is a free-form learning experience. You'll learn from the questions that other knitters have and you'll figure out what's best for you.

P.S.  Watch your email for an Upcoming Event with Jessica.  Keep October 27 open.

Spend Sunday Afternoon with Gail- October 21

Gail Hubbell, a former employee and instructor at HYS, has agreed to teach a class on "Wingspan Shawl".  Gail is an expert knitter.  Her garments are so professional.  I am sure we will all learn some valuable tips from her while creating this lovely shawl.

This free pattern came up this am on Ravelry.  The "Shrowl"  is a cowl, a shrug, whatever you want.  It is made of Malabrigo Worsted, which we have several pretty colors in stock and more on the way.
