BERNIE (PG-13) 2011, 104 min.
In the Screening Room

RRT Membership Roundup HeaderIn the tiny, rural town of Carthage, TX, assistant funeral director Bernie Tiede was one of the town's most beloved residents. He taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Everyone loved and appreciated Bernie, so it came as no surprise when he befriended Marjorie Nugent, an affluent widow who was as well known for her sour attitude as her fortune. Though when he kills her, he goes to great lengths to create the illusion that she's alive.

GOD BLESS AMERICA (R) 2011, 100 min.
Friday, July 6, 9:30 pm --  In the Screening Room
Part of our popular XTREME FILM SERIES of bold, exciting films that push the boundaries of visceral entertainment.
Terminally ill Frank (Joel Murray) postpones his suicide in favor of a killing spree-offing some of society's most repellent citizenry-with an unusual accomplice: 16-year-old Roxy (Tara Lynn Barr), who shares Frank's rage and disenfranchisement.  Director Bobcat Goldthwait imbues this dark complected satire with thought-provoking moments exploring the insensitive, self-centered nature of our culture.

SPECIAL BASTILLE DAY (SAT. JULY 14, 7 pm) FILM: ORPHANS OF THE STORM  (NR) 1921, 150 min.
In the Screening Room
Celebrate Bastille Day by watching this 1921 silent film directed by D.W. Griffith with musical accompaniment performed live by Jeff Rapsis.

Henriette and Louise are raised together as sisters. When Louise goes blind, Henriette swears to take care of her forever. They go to Paris to see if Louise's blindness can be cured, but are separated when an aristocrat lusts after Henriette and abducts her. Only Chevalier de Vaudrey is kind to her, and they fall in love. The French Revolution replaces the corrupt Aristocracy with the equally corrupt Robespierre. De Vaudrey, who has always been good to peasants, is condemned to death for being an aristocrat, and Henriette for harboring him. Will revolutionary hero Danton, the only voice for mercy in the new regime, be able to save them from the guillotine.
