Letter from a 9-12 Delaware Patriot to Walmart Corporation 

I write to encourage Walmart to keep the welfare of its loyal customers in mind during today's meeting in Washington regarding potential increased gun control methods.

The second amendment is quite clear that the general public has a right to keep and bear arms for their personal defense and to guard against a tyrannical government.

REMEMBER the definition of criminals - those who do not obey the law. Imposing more laws that only impact law abiding citizens will do nothing to reduce crime; in fact causing crime to increase because criminals are emboldened knowing law abiding citizens are disarmed.

An "assault" weapons ban in the US for 10 years has shown no decrease in crime. Since the ban ended and more people own guns, crime has in fact has gone down. Disarming citizens by outlawing weapons in the UK and Australia resulted in over 40% increase in crime.  

Do not let politicians pressure your company into doing something that first, is against the US constitution and has been demonstrated to not eliminate crime and second, is contrary to the sentiment of most ordinary US citizens - those who support your company through their purchases.  

We the customers are watching your actions and will remember at the checkout counter

Thank you for your recent inquiry. Walmart, like the rest of the country, has been engaged in a national dialogue about the responsible sale and regulation of firearms. We have had ongoing conversations with the Administration, Congress, Mayor Bloomberg's office, sportsmen groups, suppliers and others to listen and share our thoughts and experiences.

Over the years we have been very purposeful about striking the right balance between serving hunters and sportsmen and ensuring that we sell firearms responsibly. In fact, we became a charter member of Mayor Bloomberg's coalition against illegal guns and adopted the 10-point code established by the Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership that goes beyond what the law requires. We have also spoken to the Vice President's office to share our perspective and have sent an appropriate representative to participate in this discussion.

We take this issue very seriously and are committed staying engaged in this discussion as the Administration and Congress work toward a consensus on the right path forward.

I have to give Walmart credit for responding promptly to my email yesterday, 1/10/13.

But, the response was a bit unsettling, in terms of Walmart's political position, especially their apparent pride in being associated with Mayor Bloomberg's efforts on extreme gun control. They also refer proudly to their close association with an organization named the "Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership", implying that this group represents open minded firearms retailers looking out for the public welfare.  

It only required about 60 seconds of research effort on the internet, to find out that the Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership is really nothing more than a gun control advocacy group formed by fanatical Mayor Bloomberg and his coalition of "Mayors against Illegal Guns" - hardly a fair & balance group. This link http://www.mayorsagainstillegalguns.org/html/partnership/partnership.shtml list their 10 point code of conduct toward gun sales, including things such as videotaping every sales transaction and general videotaping of their employees; maintaining additional computerized gun tracing and alert systems, not authorized by law; etc.

Notice the next to last paragraph where they try to politely describe how the White House strong-armed them into sending high level representation.
