The Grand Staircase Restoration Project
Has Begun!

This past week, workers began cleaning the Grand Staircase on the Cathedral's Western Front. Funded by The Laymen's Club, this project is our biggest in a long time.

Work will continue weekdays for the next four to six weeks. The crew will be caulking joints, resetting stones, and power washing. Beginning at the north end and working towards the south, egress to the Cathedral will be maintained at all times, coordinated with Security, Facilities, and Public Education & Visitor Services. Pedestrian barriers will be in place and every effort will be made to control overspray.

As you can imagine, the temporary wheel chair ramp will inhibit finishing everything until the North Cloister access is fully open.  But most of the project should be finished by end of summer!

Club Reception In August
Date to be announced

When the steps are sufficiently finished, we will have a photo op and reception for club members to celebrate this remarkable accomplishment. Date sometime in mid/late August.  In the mean time, we will keep you posted on the progress!  If you can, come see for yourself.  It's a project we will be proud of for many years to come.
