Update on Advocate Training

Thank you for your interest in the Community Housing Partnership. This comprehensive community-based strategy is designed to help towns solve the issue of a lack of affordable housing and also build support for affordable housing in the community. We are doing this through three initiatives: Cape Housing Institute, Advocacy Training, and a Marketing Campaign.

Over the summer, the Community Development Partnership (CDP) and Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC) have been working closely to develop the curriculum for the Cape Housing Institute which is offered exclusively to current elected and appointed municipal officials who are directly involved in decision making related to affordable housing. This six-part class will equip town officials with the knowledge and skills to support the creation of more affordable housing on Cape Cod.

We have had a lot of interest in the Cape Housing Institute from people in all 15 towns on Cape Cod. Because of space constraints, we have to limit the Institute to elected and appointed municipal officials and town planning/housing staff. But our Advocacy Training will be open to everyone.

Our Advocacy Training, set to start in early 2018, is designed to equip low-to-moderate income (LMI) residents, as well as business and community leaders and the general public with information about why affordable housing is needed and necessary to build strong communities. Over the next few months, the CDP and HAC will be developing a curriculum and logistics for the upcoming Advocacy Training.

Topics will include developing leadership, community organizing and public speaking skills to effectively engage in public hearings and town meetings.  In addition, participants will gain an understanding of how affordable housing is created and how decisions are made at a town level that either support or hinder the development of affordable housing. The Advocacy Training will launch in early 2018.

Stay tuned for details as we develop the Advocacy Training!
