HIB Reporting Tool

The Burlington Township School District strongly believes that student safety is a fundamental right. Students must be given the opportunity to learn in an environment of trust and support. To that end, we fully embrace the newly-enacted Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights and related board policies.

If a parent or student believes bullying has occurred, the matter should immediately be reported to the Principal, Vice Principal, and/or School Anti-Bullying Specialist.

Parents are also able to report incidents by using the District online tool.

IMPORTANT  INFO FOR ALL PARENTS!

This is very important information for all parents!!

Summer Reading reminder for
parents and students

Surveys are due by Sept. 11, 2017!
Summer Reading has arrived in Burlington Township Schools!  Last summer we replaced our "response to reading task" with a "survey of literacy behaviors".  The data from student surveys was shared across the district and is continuously referred to in discussions and decisions regarding program, curriculum, and resource selection.

Summer Reading Survey 2017 is short.  It asks some new questions, and also requires students to share very brief thoughts about the best book, article or "other item" they read over the summer.  Parents are encouraged to sit with their child during the survey.  After answering the questions, students are directed to several resources which include ideas to promote summer reading, including links to community organizations, contests and rewards.  Students and parents may find these resources helpful as they plan how to incorporate a love for reading in the summer months!  Similar links are included at the bottom of this communication.

The goal of Burlington Township School District's Summer Reading Project is to follow the guidelines set forth by the Department of Education in encouraging our students to develop a lifelong love of reading. This year's summer reading project focuses on instilling the love of reading into the students. Your child will complete a survey of literacy behaviors to provide us with more information about reading preferences.
Students are encouraged to visit the survey early so that they can take advantage of time-sensitive resources.  HOWEVER, as the survey asks students to briefly share about their BEST summer reading item, students are encouraged to visit the survey again, later in the summer, to update their response, after they have had several summer 2017 reading experiences from which to choose the BEST.  To do this successfully, please follow the steps below:

  1. Click the appropriate link below to find your grade level's survey
  2. Complete all required questions in section one (you will have the chance to change responses later)
  3. Click NEXT to visit section two, which contains links to resources.  Click any links you wish to explore.  They will open on separate tabs or pages.  DON'T FORGET to return to the survey page to finish!
  4. Return to the survey page and click SUBMIT.  You will see your confirmation page.  Before closing this screen, click on EDIT YOUR RESPONSE.  This will allow you to edit your response immediately.  Copy the URL from the address bar and paste it in a safe place like a personal email or personal document that you can revisit later.  You can use that URL to edit your response later in the summer.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the "editable" survey and click NEXT to see Section Two and then SUBMIT to finalize the survey.
Survey results will be useful for teachers and all stakeholders as we continue to support reading beyond the classroom. Information will also help to inform program and resource planning at the school building and district level.  Your assistance in helping our students to complete this survey is greatly appreciated.  Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Please make sure your child submits a completed survey electronically by Monday, September 11, 2017. High school students who do not have English scheduled until semester two may submit the survey any time prior to the fourth day of semester two.

Fraud
fraud sign
We are asking for our residents assistance in an important matter. The Burlington Township School District continues to remain diligent by investigating   and acting upon reports of residency fraud. We have been made aware of numerous cases of children who reside outside the community and illegally attend our schools. This equates to theft of services and taxpayer dollars.

When the District becomes aware of such situations, an investigation is conducted and the appropriate actions are taken, which may include removal of children from school, reporting the incident to the police, pressing disorderly persons charges, and taking action to collect tuition. Over the years we have removed many students for illegal residency, have pressed charges, and assessed tuition.

It is illegal for a Burlington Township resident to allow the use of his/her address or residence by someone who resides outside the District for the sole purpose of allowing non-resident children to attend our schools. The District reports such incidents to the proper authorities, and takes other punitive actions against offenders.

No member of the school community should overlook this type of theft of community resources. You are encouraged to report suspected incidents of   residency fraud to the school principal or Superintendent of Schools. Reports can be made anonymously to the school offices or  Superintendent's office at 609-387-3955, Option 6. When a report is made, the District conducts its own investigation. The name of the reporting individual is not necessary or shared with anyone.

Thank you in advance for your partnership in addressing this problem.
