Richard Ray: Director of Missions - Weekly Update

This past week, my wife and I and many other family members celebrated with our daughter Josalyne Ray as she graduated from Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Saturday. On Sunday, we all attended Rocky City Church in Corpus Christi where my daughter serves as we celebrated Mother's Day. We all had such a wonderful time. I pray that you too had a very blessed Mother's Day.
This week, I will be attending the quarterly New Church Start meeting for the Church as Blue Ridge with the BGCT representative and sponsor church Fairy Baptist Church as we review, plan and pray for this new church start. I have also been asked to preach at a Celebrate Recovery Meeting along with partaking of the Lord's Supper. On Wednesday, I have the honor to deliver the devotional at Pidcoke Baptist Church as well as speak to this amazing congregation as they begin their search for their next shepherd.
To finish out the week, I will be spending time at the Tri-Rivers Retreat Center preparing the facility for the summer youth and pre-teen retreats as well as preparing for the operation of the Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter starting in September. I will be sending each church additional information via mail and through email on this new ministry within Tri-Rivers Area.
On Sunday, I have the honor to deliver the Word of God and sing a special at School Creek Baptist Church.   I am looking forward to this opportunity. The following day (Monday), I will be attending the Coryell Baptist Associational Meeting hosted by Boots and Saddle Cowboy Church.
I encourage you to review this newsletter in full to see all that God is doing and providing for His Church.
Until next week: "Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life ... more abundantly" (John 10:10). This is the message of the Gospel, and we are called by God to spread this Good News to our neighbors, our nation, and a needy world. In this violent, sin-sick world, our only hope is the Prince of Peace. - Franklin Graham

Advice and Instruction

Chuckle: "Wouldn't you know it . . . brain cells come and brain cells go, but fat cells live forever."
Quote: "Many receive advice, but the wise profit from it."--Publilius Syrus
"Get all the advice and instruction you can, and be wise the rest of your life"(Proverbs 19:20 NLT).
We all like to think we are wise and can make sensible decisions based on our own life experiences, education, and common sense. Teenagers can be resistant to advice, especially if it comes from mom and dad who, by definition, just don't know anything. But the problem is not limited to teenagers. Some of us older folks are so set in our ways that any advice that suggests changing the way we think and act is automatically rejected. We often rely on these overused words: "I've never done it that way." Today, I challenge each of us to examine our attitudes toward receiving advice and counsel.

Texas Baptist Men (TBM) has entered a God ordained partnership with The Emergency Volunteer Project (EVP) and the people of Israel to support and work alongside them in time of crisis. Acting on behalf of the State of Israel, EVP, established in 2009, is authorized by the Israeli government to recruit, train and deploy volunteer teams to assist in various capacities. The Israeli government and emergency services turn to EVP's network of trained volunteers to come to Israel's aid when it is most needed.

From man-made to natural disasters, Israel is at imminent risk. In the United States, we are blessed to know the security of a relatively protected country, but the Israeli people are surrounded by enemies and those seeking to destroy them. When a natural disaster strikes at home, we can be assured of an outpouring of support from around the country. Currently there are predictions of a 100-year earthquake looming over Israel, but they cannot depend on their neighbors for support.
Based on TBM's proven record of over 50 years training for and responding to disasters, TBM/EVP is launching an emergency campaign to train Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) consisting of hundreds of volunteers from local churches to commit to deploy to Israel when any of these scenarios become a reality. The training in Israeli methods and protocols is essential so volunteers are prepared to assist Israeli first responders, when deployed in an emergency as well as on mission trips during peacetime.  While the primary goal is to train teams of volunteers to help Israel in crises, you can also apply this training personally and in your local community. By taking this important step, you are demonstrating to Israel your support and commitment. Upon completion of training, deployment teams will be organized for short or long-term assignments according to their availability and skills. When a crisis does occur, credentials provided in this class will be the only avenue into Israel to assist.

In addition to ERTs, there will be opportunities for peacetime mission trips as well as financial needs in which you can share the resources God has provided your church.
As a TBM yellow-cap volunteer, you are receiving an invitation to prayerfully consider joining us in this new venture. We are also reaching out to thousands of churches in Texas and are asking you to encourage your pastor, missions minister and church to consider how your church can have a direct impact on God's chosen people.   Watch for an information packet in the next few weeks describing in detail the opportunities available.

"I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Genesis 12:3.

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered program with foundations firmly established in Biblical truth. The 12 Steps with accompanying Scriptures and the 8 Principles based on the Beatitudes offer participants a clear path of salvation and discipleship; bringing hope, freedom, sobriety, healing, and the opportunity to give back one day at a time through our one and only true Higher Power, Jesus Christ.  The 12 Steps and the 8 Principles work seamlessly together, tying historical recovery to timeless Biblical teaching.
