Upper Kirby Construction
Westheimer Open Through February 7

Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Buffalo Speedway
Westheimer Opened to Full Access

Despite heavy rains last week, crews were able to open Westheimer completely on Friday. The roadway will remain unobstructed through February 7, at which point crews will re-mobilize around Bellemeade and begin working west with storm sewer installation.

In an effort to complete the north side of the road by summer, crews will likely also begin concurrent utility and pavement operations at Buffalo Speedway working their way east. This would allow concrete work on the south side of  Westheimer (fronting Lamar High School) to take place over the summer months when the school is closed.

Having Westheimer clear of construction, crews were able to begin storm connections at Alabama and Sackett this week. New concrete has been placed to cover the initial connection in the center lane. Once this concrete is cured, crews can begin stubbing out the new storm sewer across the westbound lanes. This operation will begin on Monday and will impact one westbound lane of traffic for approximately two days. Work on Sackett between Alabama and Westheimer that will continue the new storm sewer north will not begin until work on Bammel is complete and the roadway is reopened . It will likely be six to eight more weeks before work on Sackett proper will begin.

Look for further updates as this project progresses.

Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Shepherd

Westheimer between Kirby and Shepherd has been substantially complete for some time. Only final  restoration remains around existing CenterPoint poles slated for removal.

CenterPoint has completed removal of power from the poles between Kirby and Shepherd and has topped off all poles with the exception of three just west of Greenbriar. CenterPoint facilities do, however, remain on the overhead poles west of Kirby to Buffalo Speedway. Here CenterPoint has not topped poles because it is not finished with all transfer feeds required to remove its facilities. No schedule has been provided on these removals as of yet.

Comcast facilities are remain on poles between Buffalo Speedway and Shepherd and final pole removal cannot take place anywhere until Comcast has completed their their work. Comcast has not committed to a schedule for removal between Buffalo Speedway and Shepherd.  Look for further updates as these schedules are made available.

Bissonnet Reconstruction:  Kirby to Buffalo Speedway

Bissonnet reconstruction work was completed between Kirby and Dincans on December 19 and reopened to the traveling public. The remainder of the project, including the north side of the roadway between Dincans and Buffalo Speedway and the south side of the roadway between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway will be rebid for construction in the first quarter of 2017.
