Volunteer Highlight - Zach Sahms
Our February Volunteer of the month is Zach Sahms. Zach has volunteered at the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina since the fall of 2014. Zach, who has a degree in Criminal Justice from Tri-County Tech, has volunteered with our educational programs and in-school programs for the museum. Zach's most recent new skill was mastering the art of dis-assembling a corn crib, which will be re-assembled on the Agricultural Museum grounds.

Exciting New Exhibits in the New Year
2015 is already shaping up to be a very busy year for the Agricultural Museum of South Carolina and the Pendleton District Commission. We have a full schedule of Kids Days, Story Times, Events, Exhibits (and even a bagpipe concert) lined up for the Agricultural Museum, and a series of exhibits on display from the Pendleton District Commission at Hunter's Store as well. First up are two very interesting exhibits that will run the entire month of February, both focusing on Black History. At Hunter's Store, we have an exhibit on the incredible life and impact of Jane Edna Hunter, and a history of the African American community in Pendleton. The Jane Edna Hunter exhibit will also feature a talk, entitled "Celebrating Pendleton's Black History," featuring Dr. Rhondda Thomas and Sandra Gantt, on February 9th at 7pm. Truly an event not to be missed.
In addition, the Agricultural Museum is proud to be running a special exhibit for the month of February, featuring the art of Frank Morris. Frank Morris' paintings are beautiful pieces of folk art portraying either agricultural scenes, or aspects of African American life in an agrarian South Carolina setting. From cotton wagons to churches, tenant-farming houses to barnyards, these incredible pieces are one-of-a-kind reminders of both the hardships and joys of life in another time. This exhibit is free to the public, and open during general Agricultural Museum of South Carolina hours.
