Convention 2018: President's Banquet and Awards Ceremony

Yes, this event is happening on Tuesday, February 6, not February 7; sorry for the typo in the last issue! This social event gives members and delegates the chance to acknowledge the dedication of long-serving and outstanding elected  officials and municipal employees. Join SUMA for a buffet-style dinner and cash bar as we honour our award recipients.

After the formal program, get ready for a good laugh with comedian Dave Hemstad. Tickets for this  event are $60. This is a great value for an evening filled with food, celebrations, and entertainment. We look forward to seeing you there!

Convention 2018: Answering Your Convention Questions

Whether this is your first SUMA convention, or you just want to be prepared for Convention 2018, this document will help you get the scoop. For example:

What is the Municipal Marketplace Tradeshow?
The Municipal Marketplace Tradeshow is held in conjunction with SUMA's annual convention, and is open to convention delegates and municipal employees.

We have a new location for the tradeshow in 2018, that gives us room for more than 200 exhibitors. The new International Trade Centre is about the same distance as the past tradeshow venue.

Be sure to make the most of the time set aside for delegates to visit the exhibitors, and encourage your municipal employees to contact SUMA prior to Convention at 306-525-4379 to register as a tradeshow observer. (They will need to visit the registration desk to get a tradeshow badge for access.)

Convention 2018: Are Your Accommodations Updated?

With registration for Convention 2018 open, now is the time to double check your accommodation plans to reflect registered delegates. SUMA negotiates special rates for delegate blocks during Convention, and four of our hotels have already filled their blocks.

If you have reserved more rooms than you need, please release any rooms you won't be using. This gives your fellow delegates a chance to get the special room rates we've negotiated on your behalf. The latest accommodation information, including special rates, is available on our website.

We Want to Hear From You: Household Hazardous Waste

SUMA has been advocating for a province-wide recycling program for household hazardous waste since 2001. We are pleased to tell you that the provincial government is developing regulations to create a program , and this is our chance to share input. You can do that in three steps:
  1. Review the summary document.
  2. Complete the online survey by December 15.
  3. Let us know you responded.
If you are looking for other information before you complete the survey, you can review our solid waste policy, review the survey questions in advance, and contact Steven Dribnenki if you have any questions.
