New CEO Announced
We announced last week that Jean-Marc Nadeau was named our new Chief Executive Officer. We don't have an official start date to announce yet, but expect him to be in place by the end of November.

In the meantime, Sean McEachern remains our Acting CEO. You can contact him by email or at 306-525-4394.

A Wrap on Regionals

The 2017 Regional Meetings wrapped last week, after visits to our seven southern regions. A big thank you to the SUMA Regional Directors for their enthusiasm and the coordination of these meetings, and to all of the host communities for the hospitality. And of course, thanks to all the attendees. We value this chance to get your feedback, hear your issues, and talk to you face to face.

Check out the Facebook album to catch a glimpse of the tour. Presentations will be available on our website later this week.

Capacity Building: Asset Management Programs Coming

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) announced a new  asset management training initiative late last month. You will have access to tailor-made asset management training from Asset Management Saskatchewan. The schedule is still under construction, but will run until June 2018. As always, SUMA will share more details when they are available.

SUMAdvantage Partner on Fire Trucks Coming Soon

SUMA has joined forces with three of our neighbouring municipal associations to bring you a program on fire trucks, fire apparatus, and related accessories and supplies. The request for proposal (RFP) is up on SaskTenders, and we should have a partner to announce next month.

We Want to Hear From You:
Election Survey Closing Soon

We talked about municipal elections at the regional meetings, but you still have the chance to fill out our survey . Please complete the survey by October 13. If your municipality hasn't received an email with a link to the survey, contact Steven Dribnenki.

Solid Waste Management Strategy Update

The Province has released a "What we Heard" summary based on consultations on the provincial Solid Waste Management Strategy. Common themes identified included funding, geographic challenges, regionalization, harmonization, enhanced regulatory and enforcement, and education. The province is now preparing a draft strategy.
SUMA's response to the initial round is summarized in our Urban Solid Waste Management Policy. Please contact Steven Dribnenki if you have any questions about the provincial summary document, the SUMA policy, or solid waste management.

Convention 2018: Registration Opens Next Month
We will be kicking off registration for Convention 2018, The Power of Hometowns, on Monday, November 6, 2017. Watch your municipality's main contact email that day for an invitation to register. The email will include a link to register and the convention brochure.

It is important to designate one person in your municipality, such as the administrator or CAO, to register all the delegates in your municipality. The early bird deadline is Thursday, December 21, 2017, so be ready to register before prices go up.
