Action Alert from the Pew Campaign on Human Health and Industrial Farming

Please consider signing the latest action alert from our program partners at the Pew Campaign on Human Health and Industrial Farming.

The FDA's new draft measures to limit the use of antibiotics in food animal production, while an encouraging step in the right direction, leave producers plenty of latitude to legally continue use at current levels. The guidelines also are not clear on how the FDA will monitor the effect of its new policy on agricultural antibiotic use.

Public disclosure will not be required, so the press and the public will continue to be kept in the dark about practices seriously dangerous to public health, endangering children in particular.

The alert follows. Thank you for all that you do!

Under the Obama Administration, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just issued draft measures to limit the overuse of antibiotics in food animal production. This is big news!

Leading medical groups warn that the routine use of antibiotics to produce meat and poultry creates new strains of dangerous, drug-resistant bacteria that threaten human health. While this move is a welcome step forward, the documents fall short in many areas.

Please join us in asking the FDA and the White House to close the loopholes so that life-saving antibiotics are no longer misused on industrial farms. Click here to send a letter to the White House and to the FDA.
