BACKGROUND
When the Florida Legislature reconvenes in two weeks in a special session centered on the state budget, a large part of the debate will be about Amendment 1. Currently, the Republican-controlled House and Senate propose to channel the largest chunk of the land preservation money - more than $230 million - to routine expenses previously funded through other sources. A small fraction would go towards Florida Forever, the state's core land-buying program ($8 million instead of $300 million).

Florida's growing population will develop another 7 million acres over the next 50 years, and we need a fully funded Florida Forever to further protect our natural resources and places. The voters realized this last fall and overwhelmingly supported Amendment 1 - please contact your legislators today and remind them!
