Utah Hosted a Very Successful National Humanities Conference
Utah Humanities was proud to sponsor and host the 2016 National Humanities Conference!
The 2016 conference theme was
Humanities Partnerships - Meeting Local and Global Challenges
This conference, which was held November 10-13, was the first in a series of joint Federation of State Humanities Councils and National Humanities Alliance national meetings.
Conference attendees enjoyed sessions centered on partnership, social events, award ceremonies, book signings, and field trips.
We were thrilled to come together as humanities colleagues and to showcase our beautiful, vibrant state.
Cynthia Buckingham, executive director of Utah Humanities and David Allred, board chair of Utah Humanities, delivered a warm welcome to the more than 450 people in attendance and thanked the Opening Reception sponsors for their generous contributions. Sarah George, director of the Natural History Museum of Utah, and Dianne Harris, dean of the University of Utah, College of Humanities, and board member of Utah Humanities, also welcomed attendees.

The Federation of State Humanities Councils provided a comprehensive daily re-cap of the conference, including articles, photos, and live streams.

Save the Date: Join Us for the 2017 Utah Tour of The Way We Worked!
The Way We Worked is a traveling exhibition created by the Smithsonian Institution and the National Archives. Utah Humanities will tour the exhibition to six communities around Utah from January 2017 to January 2018.
Explore how work became such a central element in American culture by tracing the many changes that affected the workforce and work environments over the past 150 years!
Visit The Way We Worked, enjoy related community exhibitions, and participate in great local programming in Ogden, Hyrum, Castle Dale, Fillmore, Leeds, and Park City, and remember to use #UtahWorks on social media to be a part of the conversation and experience.
The entire Utah tour kicks off in Ogden with a public grand opening. Plan to join us for fun family activities, live work demonstrations from local industries, a local Ogden exhibit in addition to the Smithsonian exhibit, and more.

We are also extremely grateful for the collaboration between the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the National Humanities Alliance, which allowed us to increase awareness and partnership between public humanities programming and academia, for students and staff of
