The Research Mentor Training Workshop developed by the Wright CCTR's Education Core took place yesterday - and it was a huge success!

Antonio Abbate and Jennifer Economy Lead Presentations on the Scientific Review Committee

The Wright CCTR sponsored the SRC Brown Bag Lunch series to introduce the VCU community to the new Scientific Review Committee (SRC).

Starting in September, the SRC will provide study design, analytic planning, and operational feasibility peer review of clinical research before review by the IRB.

The presentations were led by Jennifer Economy, M.S.H.A., SRC executive director, and Antonio Abbate, M.D., Ph.D., medical director of the Wright CCTR's Clinical Research Services, and associate chair of the SRC.

Apply for the "How-to Talks by Postdocs" Series

Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences (VCU Libraries), the Wright CCTR, and the VCU Postdoctoral Association invite postdoctoral scholars to participate in a brown bag lunch speaker program titled,  " How-to Talks by Postdocs ." 

In this series, postdocs will present a 45 minute how-to talk on a health sciences topic of their choice. These are not seminar talks, but an opportunity for postdocs to share how to do something related to the health sciences and gain some teaching experience. All talks will be open to the general VCU community.

Postdocs can apply for a teaching slot by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016.

Bioinformatics 101 Seminar Series

The Wright CCTR is excited to bring back the Bioinformatics 101 Seminar Series. 

The Bioinformatics 101 Seminar Series introduces attendees to genomic bioinformatics concepts and applications. This series includes introductions to the technology behind genomic high-throughput data, high-throughput sequencing applications, analyses and more.  

This free seminar will be held weekly on Wednesdays from  11:00 a.m. to noon in the Egyptian Building auditorium. Click here  to register.

Featured Researcher: Dr. Briana Mezuk

The Wright CCTR has published the second in our Featured Researcher series where we highlight our remarkable translational scientists. 

Briana Mezuk, Ph.D., associate professor for the VCU Department of Family Medicine and Population Health, is a CCTR-supported researcher who aims to address health disparities by studying the relationship of depression and diabetes.

She is studying the potential underlying mechanisms that explain why someone with depression is more likely to develop diabetes.

Rose O'Toole, VCU's regional CommonHealth ambassador, will lead a presentation titled "Get a Grip on Joint Pain," where she will offer strategies for protecting your joints.
"CCTR Brown Bag Lunch Seminar: Clinical Trial Recruitment" (session two) - Sept. 15 

Bring your lunch to the  Kontos Medical Sciences Center (Room 104) on Thursday, September 15 and learn about best practices and support services for effective clinical trial recruitment at VCU.   

Mary Madu, CCRC, and Kimberly Bradley, EMT, CCRP, will lead this presentation.
