A critical factor in LGBTQ history has been the establishment of our own organizations to meet the needs and express the values of our community. To chronicle and pay homage to those organizations, ONE Archives has produced Defiant Spaces: 60 Years of Queer Organizations in L.A., an exhibition exploring the history of over 40 LGBTQ organizations in the Los Angeles region. Defiant Spaces will be on view June 7 - July 5, 2012 as the centerpiece of the City of Los Angeles' LGBT Heritage Month. Beginning at 6:30pm on Thursday, June 7, 2012, the office of Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigos will host a public reception recognizing the many organizations that reshaped the cultural landscape of Los Angeles and contributed to the city's vibrant queer community. To RSVP, please email askone@onearchives.org. Find directions and parking information on the reception invitation here. Defiant Spaces is the kick-off event for a year-long celebration of the 60th Anniversary of ONE Archives. Generous support for Defiant Spaces is provided by Wells Fargo. |
