DEVELOPING AND MANAGING THE FUTURE OF APARTMENT HOME LIVING
July 2017
Dear FJG Family,
Management consultant, Peter Drucker, once said, "If you can't measure it, you can't improve or manage it."

The Operations Department devotes their time to establishing more effective and resourceful processes for the company, and I am immeasurably grateful for their endless commitment towards improving The Franklin Johnston Group as a whole.

Furthermore, I want to personally welcome the latest addition to TFJG portfolio, Luna Pointe Apartments. We are thrilled to have you aboard!

Sincerely,

Taylor Franklin

  • Marcie Marion, Community Manager, Shorehaven
  • Rachel Guerrero, Assistant Community Manager, Pointe at Pickett Farm

Operations Department
With more than 15 years of strategic leadership experience within the multifamily sector, President of Operations, Chris McKee, heads The Franklin Johnston Group's Operations Department.

This team is directly involved with The Franklin Johnston Group's day-to-day operations, and they work diligently to maximize the effectiveness of our organizational strategies. They also focus their time on monitoring the overall profitability and financial performance of our company on all levels, from the corporate office to our site teams. Though they face numerous daily challenges, the team looks forward to implementing meaningful procedures that will ultimately improve the structure of our company.
Be the Solution Winners
Congratulations to the following team members for taking extraordinary measures to  Be the Solution  at their communities:

Joanna Bradford, Leasing Specialist, Springhouse Apartment Homes
Joanna was nominated by her Community Manager, Saundra Beltz, and Regional Manager, Sandi Duvall, for making customer service a top priority. Saundra wrote, "I would like to nominate Joanna Bradford for being the solution at Springhouse. Joanna started her career in property management at in August 2016. She did not know anything about the business, but one thing she did know was how to provide outstanding customer service to our residents and prospects. We have faced many challenges with the acquisition of our property, as well as the renovation process. During two of Joanna's recent move ins, construction did not complete in time and she came into work early to go above and beyond. On her first move-in, she had to clean the unit prior to the resident showing up. Her second move-in she worked with the owner's rep and the contractors to make sure they came out to complete items that were needed, as well as tidy up from the construction. She put the new residents at ease and made sure they were notified every step of the way. This is part of an email from the owners representative that I received this morning - "I'd like to pass along to you how much help Joanna was throughout this move-in. I know she went above and beyond to get the job done, and for that, I am very appreciative." Joanna always puts the customer first at Springhouse, she keeps a positive attitude when things don't go as planned, and she is always eager to learn something new.  She is an asset to Springhouse and I appreciate everything she does every day!"

Matt McBroom, Regional of Northern Virginia Properties, TFJG
Matt was nominated by Gabe Campbell, Maintenance Supervisor for NOVA properties, last month.  Gabe nominated Matt for going out of his way to help Gabe and support his desire to be a part of the TFJG Culture Committee at the corporate office.  While there was a task that Matt needed Gabe to do during the time of the meeting, he allowed Gabe to leave and did the task himself. Gabe wrote: "This was very thoughtful to me because all on his own throughout the day he was thinking of ways to support me and allow me to do this thing that he knew meant a lot to me, even if that meant him getting away from his very busy daily tasks and taking on mine. This is just one of the many examples of Matt's positive character each day. Matt McBroom is a constant example of Be the Solution at promoting our company core values. I am amazed each day to see the positive impact he has and the personal respect he gives to each one of his employees out in NOVA. It is a pleasure to work with a boss that is also a thoughtful and wonderful person."

Jason Rigsby, Maintenance Supervisor, NorthPointe Apartments
Jason was nominated by his Community Manager, Amy Young, for leading the Maintenance team with a great attitude and dependable work. Amy wrote: "Jason has been with the company for 9 years. Jason shows the drive and determination needed every day here at Northpointe. He comes in everyday with a positive attitude and ready to work. Last year Jason worked by himself for almost 6 months. He never once complained. The residents love him and know that if they have a work order that Jason will get it done in a reasonable amount of time.  We have faced a lot of challenges here at Northpointe and I know that I can depend on Jason to help in any way that is needed, no questions asked.  We are a long ways from other properties, therefore, we are not able to reach out for help from other properties which makes me even prouder to have Jason here because I know that he will face any problem that he has and do everything he can do solve the problem. Jason has also helped in the office multiple times since I am currently short on staff. He has helped answer the phones, show apartments to prospects or just simply comes in to check and see if I need anything. He is a true team player and a great asset to Northpointe."

Sally Oertle, Assistant Community Manager, King's Crest Senior
Sally was nominated by her Community Manager, Samantha Churcher, for being an exceptional team member and consistently going out of her way to make King's Crest the best place to live. Samantha wrote: "I wanted to take a minute and nominate my assistant Sally Oertle. She is the leasing consultant/assistant manager at Kings Crest but what I like to call her is my right hand and a blessing! Sally is the TRUE meaning of "Be The Solution!" She will go out of her way to make sure others our taken care of with a smile on her face. The latest, Sally had to cover the office for me while I was out for 2 weeks. She stepped up and took on the responsibility by herself. Since I have returned I have heard nothing but great things that Sally did for residents while I was gone to ensure that my absence did not affect the community!"

Laura Warman, Community Manager, Greenbrier Senior
Laura was nominated by her Regional Manager, Margaret Reinhardt, for her quick problem solving skills and her compassion for the people around her. Margaret wrote, "I'd like to nominate Laura Warman for Be the Solution. After a devastating fire at a nearby senior community in Chesapeake, Laura reached out to the owner to share her availability. She got approval to make their transition as easy as possible, waiving application fees and reducing the security deposit. She was able to accomodate one victim immediately and another victim next month. Additionally, Laura agreed to collect money from her Greenbrier residents to contribute to the Uniter Way fund designed for their needs. Laura's kindness and efficiency is why I believe she deserves the recognition."

We are so proud to have each of you on TFJG team.
Thank you for being the solution!

Operation School Supplies 2017

In 2007, CEO, Wendell Franklin, created the Operation School Supplies program to provide children of TFJG residents with the essential tools needed for a successful school year. For several weeks in August, participating TFJG communities will be hosting Back to School parties in an effort to collect book bags and school supply donations for children in their communities. Our teams make the shopping easy for parents and excite the children in anticipation of a new school year. To all children of the TFJG communities, we wish you a wonderful year ahead.  Contact Mary Mitchum  for further information about how you can get involved!
