Summer Thursdays - Stay Late 'til 8 
Our doors are open until 8 pm (outdoor trail open until 7:30 pm) every Thursday from June 1 - Aug 31.
Stay late until 8 pm with added activities including:
  • Human Hamster Balls - come play inside these large inflatable balls ($5 fee)
  • Canoeing on Deer Park Lake
  • Animal Encounters
  • VLM Collections Rocks! Enjoy mineral and rock display from our vast collections
  • Outdoor Trail Open Until 7:30 pm
  • Wild Side CafĂ© Family Dining Options - enjoy grab-and-go dinners and sit in the garden
  •  LIVE music by Soundspectrum Entertainment 5:30-7:30 pm 
  • Planetarium Shows: Kaluoka'hina 4:30 pm  and Virginia Skies at 5:30 pm Cost: VLM members free, non-members $4 plus Museum admission
  • Stop by the Wild Things Museum Store for a special 30% item from 5-8 pm.

Follow our walking T-Rex in a dinosaur parade. Be sure to bring a camera for photo opportunities, enjoy adventure, and a roaring good time on the Dinosaur Discovery Trail!

This Children's Theater production held in the
 museum's outdoor amphitheater answers the question "Is My Sandwich a Dinosaur?"  Children learn  all about dinosaurs and what fossils (and chicken sandwiches) can teach us about them.Six shows daily with lots of audience participation!  Weather permitting: 11:00 am, 11:30 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00  pm, 1:30 pm, and 2:00 pm in  the outdoor Wason Amphitheater. Note: no  shows 6/19 & 6/21

Celebrate the 4th in air conditioned comfort!  Join us in the Abbitt Planetarium for Spirit of America. This presentation mixes great patriotic music with America-inspired rock & roll and songs that have defined American music. Rock on to great artists like John Fogerty, Garth Brooks, Lee Greenwood, and so many, many more. 
Cost:    $3 VLM members, $6 non-members per showing

Water|Ways
a Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition
Open Daily  through July 9  
Water is a critical resource. Water|Ways focuses on the numerous relationships between people and water. How has water shaped our history and traditions? How does it impact our daily life? What does the future hold for water?
  • Want to see what it takes to keep water clean in an aquarium? Stop by our Aquaculture tank to learn about various filtration elements
  • Enter the "Surf Zone" and put your balancing skills to the test or paddle in a kayak 
  • What is a watershed? An engaging video presentation tells you all about it
  • Come by our craft table where kids can create their favorite water animal and add it to the water scene banner, see our "trash turtle" and more!

If you thought you knew everything about sharks, think again! Experience the epic life of  Harriet Hammerhead - take a peek inside her diary in this traveling exhibit that highlights  shark biology and conservation.

The panels of Harriet's diary are on display on the upper main level of the Museum t
hrough Sept 4.
