Camp Dates:  June 10th-15th, 2013

The 11th Annual Eric 'RicStar' Winter Music Therapy Camp is a WONDERFUL volunteer opportunity offered by MSU's Community Music School.  For those of you who have not yet been involved in the camp, it is a fun-filled, music-filled event honoring the life of Eric Winter and celebrating the ABILITIES that, as people, everyone has!

Sadly, Eric passed away unexpectedly in 2003, but because of his great love and enjoyment of music, as well as the incredible dedication of his parents (Dick and Judy Winter) this music therapy camp became a reality.

MSU's CMS has a NEW LOCATION on Hagadorn Rd. and due to the new accommodations, camp will run differently this summer than in previous years.  There will be TWO 3-DAY CAMPS back to back.

Children and Adolescent Campers:

Monday, June 10 - Wednesday, June 12 from 9:30-2:30pm

Adult Campers:

Thursday, June 13 - Saturday, June 15 from 9am - 3pm

We need many volunteers to help in the group settings for both camp sessions this June.  There will be many different music therapy groups, all divided according to age.  These groups need MANY volunteers to help them run smoothly.  As a volunteer, you need to be energetic and positive throughout the entire day, which isn't always easy!  You do not have to plan anything or have any music knowledge or background, leave that to the music therapists!

Priority will be given to individuals who are able to volunteer all 3-days for one or both of the camps, but please let us know if you only have a few dates available because we have many volunteer positions to fill.  Linked to this email are two forms. One is the Volunteer Application which needs to be sent back to Jaime Merritt as soon as possible.  The other is a Background Check Form which needs to be sent back to the Office of Risk Management (see form for information).

Every individual who is planning on volunteering for the Eric 'RicStar' Music Therapy Camp MUST fill out both forms.  If you are a returning volunteer, past forms do not apply, so please fill out and return the 2013 forms.  There is also a MANDATORY Volunteer Training that you need to attend on Wednesday, June 5th from 7:00-8:30pm at the camps location.

If you are interested in volunteering but are from out of town, do not worry!  Housing for volunteers typically is between a host and the volunteer.  If you are willing to be a volunteer host home for someone during camp, please let Jaime know.  There is a place on the volunteer application to check if you are willing to host a volunteer.  In addition, if you are looking for housing and are in need of a host to stay with, please let Jaime know that as well. We will do the best we can to provide you with what you need in order to volunteer.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about music therapy and/or to gain experience in interacting with children and adults with and without special needs.  Please email Jaime Merritt at with the forms and any questions in regards to volunteering.  We need to get the forms in order to start organizing all of the wonderful volunteers who help make camp a success every year!
