City & GVRD Partner to Improve 13 Parks Throughout the City

The grand opening of Vallejo's brand new Setterquist Park was held on February 11. The completion of the playground marks the end of Cycle 1 of the Participatory Budgeting project, "Parks & Recreation Improvements." Vallejo residents identified 12 parks for upgrades.  GVRD was able to make the specified enhancements while remaining under their $377,000 allocation of Measure B funding.

In addition, GVRD offered in kind contributions totaling $160,000 and added a new playground to Setterquist Park in North Vallejo, bringing the total number of improved parks to 13. Participatory Budgeting projects are funded through Measure B sales tax revenue, approved by voters in 2011.

Vice Mayor Rozzana Verder-Aliga, Vallejo Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Rich Curtola, GVRD General Manager Shane McAffee and Maintenance Superintendent Gabe Lanusse, along with members of the PB Steering Committee, Cycle 1 Budget Delegates, and GVRD and City staff attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

"GVRD was extremely grateful to have received funding based on the vote of the residents," said Shane McAffee, General Manager of GVRD. "By using our own staff as much as possible and by covering other costs with our own budget and Measure K funding, we were able to accomplish all the improvements and save enough money for another complete playground. For me, that is what it is all about, getting things done."

Other parks that have been improved include: Crest, Delta Meadows, Blue Rock Springs, North Vallejo, Beverly, Borgess, Grant Mahoney, Hanns, Richardson, Terrace, Washington and the Bocce Ball courts behind the GVRD Community Center at on Amador Street. Improvements ranged between locations and included new playgrounds, benches and picnic tables, drinking fountains, trash receptacles, restroom repairs, lighting at a Bocce Ball court, and repaving or replacing sidewalks and walkways.

Setterquist Park is located on the corner of Mini Drive and Stanford Drive. For directions, click here.

Lincoln Road Starbucks Completes Business Renovations

Starbucks, located at 408 Lincoln Road East along I-80, has a new look!  The location completed an interior remodel of its 1,725 square foot facility and reopened January 27. Interior renovations to the site included new flooring and tile, movement and construction of the cashier and barista area, plumbing installation, updated light fixtures, and added restrooms to comply with ADA clearance.

The drive through identification, direction signals, and clearance bars were also updated.
New walls were constructed  to separate the coffee
store from the gas station food mart. The location is now equipped with a full-size chill wall, displaying pre-made food and cold drinks. This is the second location in Vallejo to include this design feature. Together the upgrades highlight Starbuck's commitment to sustainable design and construction, as evidenced in this location's landscaping, building methods, materials, lighting and more.

Progress Continues for Southern Waterfront Clean Up

PG&E is working with the City of Vallejo to conduct an environmental investigation and cleanup of a former manufactured gas plant (MGP) site near Curtola Parkway and Sonoma Boulevard. The 26-acre property is located near Curtola Parkway and Sonoma Boulevard, with the project being overseen by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC).

In December, PG&E released a 2015 end of year summary regarding the South Waterfront cleanup progress. PG&E completed an extensive environmental investigation from March 2013 to January 2014, which resulted in DTSC approval in early 2015.  This approval allows PG&E to begin developing a cleanup plan, which will be available for public review this year. The cleanup is anticipated to begin in 2017.

Investigation and remediation of the site is an important first step in the redevelopment process. Updates regarding the project will be provided to the community on a regular basis.

For more information or questions about the project, contact Melitta Rorty, PG&E Project Manager at (925) 415-6328, or visit the PG&E website
