Stated Presbytery Meeting at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Worthington, May 16

Whew! What a day we had in Worthington yesterday. This was our first hybrid Presbytery/ Commission / Committee meeting day. Could we pack any more into one day? I think not.

Five of our major commissions/committees met in the morning. If you weren't on a committee, then you could participate in the Immigration Forum held in Geneva Hall where several speakers talked about some of their work with immigrants.

The afternoon portion was the business meeting and worship.

During the meeting, we:
  • celebrated the First Presbyterian Church of Fulda with Mary Winter, who shared the history, mission and ministry at the FPC Fulda, which, despite being without a pastor right now, is very active and healthy
  • moved Amy Levinski from inquirer to candidate. It was a joy hearing from this thoughtful woman
  • celebrated the ministries of Al Jergenson (Foley) and Carol Chmielewski (Silver Lake) and wished them well in their retirement
  • approved the call of the Executive Director of Presbytery Mission to Rev. Dr. SanDawna Ashley. We are so looking forward to her joining us!!
  • moved the August meeting date to August 22
Folks from the Occidente Partnership Task Force led worship.
  • They signed the Renewal of our Pact for Companionship in Mission for 2017-2020.
  • We heard the sermon from our friend Alma Lili Rodriguez from Guatemala, translated by Edith Alvarez
  • Westminster Worthington's pastor, Rev. Galen Smith, and Alma Lili led the celebration of Holy Communion
  • We even sang "May the God of Hope Go with Us" in Spanish and English
Thanks to everyone at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington for being such gracious hosts!

Coming Soon: The Academy

Simply put, it is a series of 11 courses designed to develop well equipped, thoughtful people to better serve councils in a variety of capacities. For some this may lead to becoming commissioned ruling elders (CREs) while others delight in learning and growing as a leader.  We are lining up some of the finest instructors we can find! No Room in the Library

Rick Carus is downsizing his library and has some books that he would like to see have a good home, in particular, seventeen volumes of the "Interpretation Commentary"  by John Knox Press. The volumes (and authors) include:
  • Genesis (Walter Brueggeman)
  • Deuteronomy (Patrick Miller)
  • First and Second Kings (Richard Nelson)
  • Jeremiah (R.E. Clements)
  • Daniel (Sibley Towner)
  • Hosea-Micah (James Limburg)
  • Nahum-Malachi (Elizabeth Achtemeier)
  • Matthew (Douglas Hare)
  • Mark (Lamar Williamson)
  • Luke (Fred Craddock)
  • John (Gerard Sloyan)
  • Acts (William Willimon
  • Romans (Mark Achtemeier)
  • Philippians (Fred Craddock)
  • First and Second Timothy-Titus (Thomas Oden)
  • First, Second, and Third John (D. Moody Smith)
  • Revelation (Eugene Boring)
If you would like to adopt one, two, or all seventeen volumes, please contact Rick via e-mail -- rickcarus@gmail.com

Arrangements can be made for the books to be delivered, or picked up at the presbytery office.

Also, while it may be outdated, Rick also has a five-volume set of the Interpreters Dictionary of the Bible that could use a good home. If there are any takers, please let him know!
