George Gets His Wheels!

We are so excited to announce that George got his adaptive bike!!! We presented him with his bike at Lambeau Field during the Green Bay Packers' first practice of the season. AND he got to ride hs bike side by side with a Green Bay Packer! How cool is that!?! THANK YOU for making George's wish of "being one of the guys" a dream come true!

We encourage you to continue sharing George's Freedom on Wheels crowdfunding campaign so that kids with physical disabilities just like George can also join in on the classic childhood pastime of riding a bike. We receive new applications for adaptive bikes on a regular basis and want to say "YES!" to every child who wants to ride.

Ben Marcus Memorial Variety Golf Classic a Success!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2016 Ben Marcus Memorial Variety Golf Classic!  More than 150 people came out to support our largest fundraiser of the year. 

8-year-old Variety Kid Nate was our Guest of Honor and surprised everyone with a guest appearance during dinner. He strolled in on his adaptive bike to show his mad skills and to say thank you to all of our guests.

We are still crunching the numbers but it was another successful year for sure!
Donor Spotlight
We would like to express our deep appreciation to Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) for choosing Variety as the benefiting charity of their company's "Champion a Charity" fundraiser. CPI set a fundraising goal of $1,500  to sponsor Variety teen Maddie's adaptive bike but blew it out of the water by raising a whopping $2,700!  The extra funds raised will be used to provide equipment for another Variety child.

We are impressed by all of the creative ways that CPI raised the funds.  Throughout July, CPI held various activities:
  • Sold t-shirts
  • Sold homemade snacks off of a cart wheeled around the office 
  • Sold compliment cards. Staff bought cards to show their coworkers how much they appreciate them! (They did this in honor of Maddie since she loves to give and receive compliments.) 
  • Sold items off a snack table in the kitchen. 
  • Breakfast buffet
  • Anyone wearing shorts on Fridays donated $2.

Meet Maddie
Maddie is a 16-year-old Variety teen who has a larger than life personality! She is a very happy, motivated and polite young lady. She loves to give AND receive compliments. Her energetic and enthusiastic personality makes her shine wherever she goes. She loves to listen to all types of music and has a "thing" for tape measures.

Maddie is diagnosed with cerebral palsy and is developmentally delayed. She wants to ride a bike and thanks to our friends at Crisis Prevention Institute who partenered with Variety for their "Champion a Charity" fundraiser, Maddie will get her bike next Friday. Stay tuned for photos!

Believe it or not, this will be Maddie's first bike ever! She has ridden a bike in gym class but has never owned one herself. Maddie is very excited about getting a bike and can't wait to ride it at the park across the street from her home.
