The 2017 Variety Spring Golf Classic was a success. More than 125 guests came out to raise funds for our Variety kids and programs!

Variety kid Madyjo and her parents joined us as our VIP guests and shared their personal story about how Variety has made an impact on their lives. Madyjo and her family attended Chatter Matters! Communication Camp last year and are looking forward to attending again this year.

We send a huge thank you to WaterStone Bank, our Presenting Sponsor, and all of our other sponsors, golfers and dinner guests who made this outing a success. We also thank Greg Essig, the owner of Western Lakes Golf Club and event chair of this outing, for his leadership and dedication. Without Greg, this event would not be possible.

Planned Giving Update

Recently we added three new members to our Legacy Club.  The first has specified that a percent of his IRA will be directed to Variety as part of his long term planning to support our Children's needs in the years to come.  The second new Legacy Club member forwarded to us a commitment memo that specified that an amount of cash has been set aside for Variety Children and verified his Family consent.  Our third Legacy Club member, a long term donor to Variety, has noted in a message to us that he and his wife have named Variety in their Will.  It's very gratifying to know that the Mission of Variety will be assured in the years to come.

If you have questions about our Legacy Club please call me at 262-777-2090 so we can discuss those questions.

 Meet Madyjo

Madyjo is a bubbly 5-year-old girl who absolutely loves life. Like other children her age, she expresses her emotions by sticking out her bottom lip when she is sad and stomping her feet and crossing her arms when she is mad. But because of Madyjo's diagnosis of Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum, speaking and expressing her emotions verbally is extremely difficult for her. She had a limited set of words that she used to communicate with her family and friends.

Madyjo's world was changed forever when she and her family attended Variety's Chatter Matters! Communication Camp. Because of friends like YOU, Madyjo experienced the joy of camp with her mom, dad, and two brothers last summer. As a family, they learned how to communicate using a computer that is installed with special communication software--all with the goal of helping Madyjo increase her communication ability. Madyjo's favorite part about camp was being with other kids who use "talkers" and meeting her new friend Emma who uses the same type of communication device as she does!
Madyjo and her friend Emma chat with one another through their communication devices!

Chatter Matters! was life-changing, not just for Madyjo, but for her entire family. For her dad, camp helped him realize the value of providing Madyjo with the skills to verbally express her wants and needs. For her brothers, camp helped them realize that they are not alone and that there are other kids like their sister. Shortly after camp last year, Madyjo got her very own communication device to use at home. It opened a whole new world and set of vocabulary words for her to use. Madyjo's family looks forward to returning to camp this summer to build on the skills they learned last year.

With the help of friends like YOU, Madyjo is able to find her voice. Please help us make this possible for other children this year! Donate now!

Put Some Windex On It!
Three of the Ladies of Variety: Gerise LaSpisa, Lisa Tomachek, Maria Eugenia Rodriguez

Our sold out LOV (Ladies of Variety) event, "My Big Fat Dinner & A Chick Flick", was a screaming good time! We started the night off with lots of great raffle prizes and a cocktail party with drink specials in the Take Five Lounge at Marcus Majestic Cinema. Then we enjoyed a screening of My Big Fat Greek Wedding and a delicious Greek inspired dinner.

At the end of the fun-filled night, each lady took home a beautiful gift bag filled with goodies which were generously donated by our sponsors Marcus Theatres, Marcus Hotels and Resorts, and Royal Corporation. Each goody bag contained Windex (we just had to "put Windex on it") and toiletries from Well Spa + Salon.
We thank everyone who helped make our event a success including our event guests, Marcus Theatres, the Marcus Majestic Cinema staff, and the Ladies of Variety a.k.a. LOV who planned and executed this event.

Stay tuned for future LOV events!

We extend our sincere thanks to the ShopKo Foundation  for their generous grant in support of Chatter Matters! Communication Camp. Their support will send one child to Chatter Matters! next month to learn how to better communicate using assistive technology and best of all-find their voice!
