AIPAC Conference Kickoff Meeting
|
Dear Friends,
I am very excited to announce that I will be leading Shir Tikva's first official mission to Washington D.C. to participate in the AIPAC Policy Conference this coming March 4-6. 2018.
The Policy Conference is a chance to collectively stand with Israel, united as a community. The bipartisan conference is the largest gathering of the pro-Israel movement in the United States. We will join with a coalition of over 18,000 community members, students, progressives, conservatives, Jews, non-Jews, members of Congress, foreign leaders to come together as part of this big-tent movement to support Israel's physical safety and security and the pursuit of peace between Israel and her neighbors.

December 13th at 7:00pm at Temple Shir Tikva at a kickoff event for an Israel Update and an informational conversation about the mission. We will be joined by two senior AIPAC professionals: Eric Giesser (AIPAC Regional Director) and Elon Stricker (AIPAC Synagogue Initiative Director) who will give us an update on the latest developments in U.S. - Israel alliance and answer questions about what to expect in Washington.
I really hope that we will be able to take a significant delegation from Temple Shir Tikva to learn together and help advance a strong US-Israel relationship. You won't want to miss this incredible experience.

Comedy Night

Comedy night With Tom Hayes and Mary Ellen Rinaldi
Adult Night Out - leave the kids at home!
Join us for a great night of laughs and comradery with top headliner comedians and enjoy the traditional Chinese food buffet dinner, drinks (beer and wine) and homemade desserts.
Comedy Night is an annual event that has been a fun and special night out at the temple!
(must be at least 21 years old)
Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. (open seating) and dessert starts about 8:15. Comedy begins about 8:30.
Dinner and Comedy:
TST Members: $50 pp ($60 at the door), Non Member: $60 pp ($70 at the door)
Comedy:
TST Members: $35 pp ($45 pp at the door), Non Members: $45 pp ($55 pp at the door)
Dessert and refreshments are included in both options.

Mah Jongg for Beginners

 Starting Sunday, January 21, 2018, 11:30 a.m.
We know a lot of women in our community play - if you have ever wondered what the "bams, cracks, and dots" were all about, we are ready to introduce you to the game enjoyed by generations of Jewish Women. No experience necessary!
The first class will be Sunday, January 21, followed by 3 more classes on January 28, February 4 and February 11. It is strongly recommended you attend all 4 classes, if possible.
Price: $10 which includes the 2017card. (Non-members $18)
Light refreshments will be served.

Shira Yoga

Looking for an alternative path to access and enrich your experience of Jewish spirituality? Then join us for Shira Yoga. Shira Yoga is a creative practice that integrates movement, Jewish texts, and global Jewish music. Drawing inspiration from the beautiful culture of Jews from North Africa, the Middle East, India, and beyond, this practice blends chanting Piyut (sacred Hebrew poems set to music) with yoga postures designed to produce a sense of freedom in the body, peace of mind and enrichment of spirit.
Taught by: Dr. Eva Heinstein, Executive Director of Piyut North America and temple member, Holly Glick.
Dr. Heinstein holds an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; and Temple member Holly Friedman Glick, LICSW, RYT500, a licensed psychotherapist and yoga teacher certified at the 500hr level.
There is no fee for this series but registration is required.
Please sign up by Friday prior to Sunday class. There is a minimum of 5 participants required to run class.

Please help us......
For our b'not mitzvah project we will be making stuffed animals and pillows for foster children. What do we need??
- leftover fabric of all shapes and sizes
- fabric in good condition you want to recycle (like curtains, unstained clothing, comforters or other materials that would make cute patterns when repurposed)
- leftover batting, stuffing, old pillows
- leftover buttons and thread
We want to make these present for children who have been removed from their homes so they can have something to hug during their difficult journey. We want to do this while being environmentally responsible.
If you can donate any of these materials please contact us at [email protected] and we will pick them up from you or you can leave it in the bin in front of the temple office.

Kesher-Y.O.U. Mitzvah Opportunity

JFS of Metrowest invites you and your children to visit an isolated Jewish elder this Hanukkah and share the joy of the holidays through the new Kesher-Y.O.U. (Connecting Young and Old United) program, a pilot program funded by CJP's Metrowest Jewish Community Fund.
This program is for families with young children (older children are welcome as well!) who would like to do a mitzvah (good deed) this holiday season.
The first session will celebrate Hanukkah and is scheduled for Sunday, December 17, 2017.
The program will begin at 12:30pm at Temple Shir Tikva, 141 Boston Post Road, Wayland, MA 01778.
Pre-registration is required - to participate, please register for this session by December 11th.

Family Promise

 Family Promise
Sunday, January 7 - Sunday, January 21
Temple Shir Tikva will be hosting guests from the Family Promise Metrowest (FPM) family shelter program for two weeks beginning Sunday, January 7.
During this time,
we share our TST home by creating a cozy living space on the second floor
consisting of bedrooms, a dining area, family room and a kitchen. The guest families arrive each day in time for dinner and stay overnight, departing early in the morning for their work and school routines.
We invite you to support Family Promise by volunteering with us!
There are many ways to support the program, and each role is vital. For activities involving direct interaction with guests, the first step is to attend a short orientation training. The next training is at St Andrew's Church in Framingham on Tuesday, December 12 from 7:00-8:30 p.m.There will also be a training at Shir Tikva on January 2 at 7 p.m.
For those who have volunteered with us in the past, we are no longer using Lotsa Helping Hands as our volunteer website. Instead, we will be joining the FPM greater volunteer network in using a new system, CERVIS, to sign up for volunteer opportunities.
We ask that all volunteers register on the new site

- Follow the instructions as you go. Be sure to go to Volunteer Groups and select Temple Shir Tikva-if you do not check off this box, you will not appear on the list of TST volunteers.
- To volunteer at Temple Shir Tikva, click on our host weeks and select a date or dates and activities that work best for you!
- Once you are registered with CERVIS, you will be able to sign up for any volunteer opportunities posted throughout the network.

Hanukkah: The Festival of Lights
On the evening of December 13, enjoy performances by musicians from around the region, view a one-of-a-kind artist-made menorah, and join a community candle lighting. Make art and tour the MFA's collection of Judaica to celebrate Hanukkah, the festival of lights. Free admission begins at 4 pm; all Hanukkah events are free.
