Campaign for Religious Equality
Dear Friends,

We wanted to express our concern about recent events taking place in Israel. In the last few weeks we have witnessed the arrest of a Conservative Rabbi for the crime of performing a Jewish wedding. The Nation State Law was passed by the Knesset (Parliament) which downgraded the status of the Arabic language, undermined efforts to advance religious pluralism, and gave legal sanction to discrimination against marginalized groups. Alongside this legislation was also passed excluding same sex couples from adopting children through surrogacy.

We believe that now is the time for action and we are therefore supporting ARZA's (Association of Reform Zionists of America) Campaign for Religious Equality in Israel. We believe it is imperative that we do what we can to ensure the future of the Jewish State as an Open, Pluralistic, and Democratic society.

This Campaign will:
  • Support our ability to win battles in the Knesset and the Courts.
  • Grow the Reform Movement in Israel by building new congregations.
  • Strengthen the impact of the Israeli Reform Movement's public awareness campaign
ARZA is seeking to raise $3,600 from every Reform congregation across North America to support the Campaign. We have been able to commit 50% of what is being asked for and we are asking you to help us to raise the other 50%.

If you would like to make a donation to support this work please contact the office, 508-358-9992 or you can send a check to the synagogue made out to TST, "Campaign for Religious Equality" marked on the memo line.

To learn more about ARZA and the work that they are doing you can visit their website www.arza.org and to read Rabbi Danny's sermon: "Are we losing Israel" click here.
We hope that you will support us in this important work, and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to be in touch.

High Holy Day Ushers Needed
Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are just around the corner. To all of our High Holy Day Ushers from last year, your time and contribution to our services was so very appreciated and ensured that people were welcomed and supported as they came into Temple Shir Tikva.

We are again looking for congregants to volunteer as ushers for our High Holy Day services. If you want the perfect opportunity to volunteer at TST, this is it!  A one time commitment, however, one that is vital. Our usher squad is an essential part of ensuring meaningful, engaging and participatory High Holy Day worship services for all.

Will you join our Usher Squad?

Please email Liz Vinsant, our Usher Squad coordinator, at [email protected] to let her know if you will be able to help.

Thank you for helping our High Holy Day services run so smoothly.

Rabbi Danny
