Race & Social Change: A Quest, A Study, A Call to Action
Wednesday, May 30, 7 p.m.

Join us for an evening with Dr. Max Klau, a Temple Shir Tikva congregant and author of this recently published title.  As a doctoral student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Max stumbled upon a provocative educational exercise in the tradition of the Milgram obedience experiments and the Stanford prison experiment that provided an opportunity to study the unfolding of multiple simulated civil rights movements.   The insights from this exploration of matters of race and social change are surprising and provocative and illuminate the work each of can do to confront racial injustice in our own communities.

This event is sponsored by the Wayland Interfaith Leaders Association as part of their program of events tackling racism in our community.

TST Annual Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation
Monday, June 4, 6:15 p.m.

Our Congregation's Annual Meeting will take place on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 6:15 PM. Our format will differ from past years in that we will be serving dinner and honoring all of our volunteers during the first part of the meeting. All who attend will also receive a gift of thanks! I hope you will attend as we review our current year, present our budget for 2018-19, and vote in a new slate of Trustees.

The past year has seen many important milestones and accomplishments. For example, the enormous success of our Early Learning Center, under Sandy Gold's leadership, has been one of the highlights of our year. We have hired a new Associate Rabbi, Jordi Battus, and a new Director of Education (Alison Weikel).   Our 40th anniversary celebration was an incredible success.

We are also coming off of our third consecutive year of financial stability. This has been accomplished by executing outstanding expense management, coupled with a revenue stream that reflected an annual fund that was targeted to meet our needs. We continue to successfully change the culture of TST from a membership dues and fees model to an aspirational culture that moves aggressively to meet our needs through targeted development. The budget for 2018-19 will be presented at the meeting for congregational approval.

We have accomplished so much this year and are grateful for all that our professional staff have brought to our community. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on June 4.

Chavurah Initiative
We hope that you have heard about the program to get Chavurah groups up and running within TST.  The kick-off dinner indicated a lot of enthusiasm, and we're glad so many of you were able to be there. If you couldn't make it, you can (and should!) absolutely still get involved.

Here is a link to a sign up form on google docs.  If you are interested in being matched with other like-minded people in a chavurah, please get the form back to me in any one of the three following ways:
  1. Print out the form, fill it in, leave it in the temple office.
  2. Print out the form, fill it in, and scan or take a picture of the form and email it to [email protected].
  3. Make a copy of the google doc, fill it out online, and send me a link.

Regardless of how you submit the form, please make sure that it is either in the temple office or emailed to [email protected] by JUNE 1ST.  We plan on informing people of their groups the first week of June.

We're so excited to get our new "TST families" up and running, and we're looking forward to you being a part of them.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to either of us.
