TST Center for Jewish Spirituality: Mussar
|
After Vidui comes Mussar - Exercise for your Soul
As the High Holidays approach, our thoughts turn inward and we take stock of our lives. On Yom Kippur we will recite Vidui, an alphabetical list of sins. As we review the year's actions, we realize that we have some soul work to do. We resolve to do better in the coming year. But, how can we affect real change? The study and practice of Mussar offers guidance.
Mussar is a Jewish discipline, rooted in ancient texts, that is as relevant today as it was 1000 years ago. It is a spiritual journey upon which one embarks to mindfully work toward becoming the best version of oneself. Let this be the year that you resolve to "exercise your soul." Let this be the year that you engage in Mussar, and work toward realizing the intentions that you set for the New Year.
Two va'ads (groups) will be led by TST Co-Chair of Spirituality Caryl Shaw, who is a Mussar group facilitator certified by The Mussar Institute. Together we will exercise our souls through text study, group discussion, study with a chevruta (partner), journaling, and targeted practices.
Seasons of Mussar I: Tuesdays mornings 9:45 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Season of Mussar 2 (prerequisite Season of Mussar I) Thursday evenings 7:00 - 8:45 pm
