From the President . . .

We are off to a great start this year!  Thank you to those who have joined the PTO already, and for those that haven't turned in their membership forms, it is not too late!  A reminder that it is an annual membership and all dues go directly back to our children's classrooms in the form of grants for the teachers, assemblies for the students, staff appreciation, and much more!

We are so thankful for the many volunteers who have committed their time to help the PTO this year.  If you're looking for a way to help, we still are seeking members for the Yearbook and Social Committees. Please email me and we can talk about what those groups actually do - I'm happy to answer any questions.

Thanks to your support from last year, we are pleased to announce that Author Aaron Reynolds is coming to Victory on Monday, October 3rd. His visit wouldn't have been possible without the PTO, and we are so excited to share him with all of the students.

Have a great October!  We look forward to seeing you at our next PTO meeting on Tuesday, October 11th at 7pm in the Library.

Warm regards,

Angela Cioletti
President, VESPTO

Volunteer Opportunities
volunteers needed

Thank you so much to our amazing volunteers! We have some wonderful parents who have helped out with so many things to get our school year off to a great start. Thank you for stuffing the first day folders before school even began, helping in the office, cafeteria, bus loop, hallways, car rider line, Bus Evacuation Drill and in our food pantry. Our Westie parents are the best!

We are pleased to announce that our PTO Board member of September is  Liz Yackel! Liz has been so kind as to head up organizing the After School Clubs which is no easy task. We can't thank her enough for all the work she has done to help get these programs coordinated. Liz is wonderful to work with and super organized! We are very fortunate to have her in this role. Thank you, Liz!

Westies: We have an ongoing need in the library and they can always use extra hands. Did you know our librarians check in/out and shelve approximately 50+ books an hour? If you are coming to volunteer in the classroom or another area and have extra time, please consider dropping by the library. Sign-Up Genius will come this week!!

UPCOMING: Don't miss our annual Volunteer Orientation in the cafeteria. Date to be announced this week, so please be on the look-out. If you are a room parent or plan on volunteering at Victory during this school year, please make every effort to join us for this important meeting. We will cover everything you need to know about volunteering. If you have been a room parent before - thank you for serving again! Please know there is some volunteer paperwork to be signed and copy machine training is available for those who need a refresher. Breakfast treats and coffee will be served.

Thank you so much for giving your time and talents to our school!

If you have any questions, please email our Volunteer Coordinator, Casey Kwitkin at  [email protected]

Also, if you have not been receiving emails for Sign-Up Genius for our volunteer events so far this year, and wish to start receiving emails for future Sign-Up opportunities, then please email Casey at  [email protected] to let her know and she will make sure you are added to her volunteer mailing list!

Watch for future volunteer opportunities on our  Volunteer Opportunites page  at our official VESPTO website.  You may also follow our official Facebook page at  http://www.facebook.com/vespto , where volunteer announcements will also be posted.

Jonah's Bookshelf
The Victory Elementary School Library now features a red bookshelf in honor of Jonah Diaz, a 1 st grade student who passed away from brain cancer in 2015. Since Jonah was an avid reader who would want children to have access to their favorite books, the bookshelf theme is "hot books"- the books that are in highest demand and most checked out. If you are interested in helping with Jonah's Bookshelf, please consider donating by ordering a hardcover book from the Amazon Wish List ( https://amzn.com/w/170UTCWWVTS1G or search "Victory Elementary Jonah's Bookshelf" in Amazon Wish List) or by dropping off an Amazon gift card at the Victory library. Thank you!

Backpack Buddies

On October 14th at 5pm, The Gainesville-Haymarket Rotary Club is hosting their 6th Annual Night Golf Tournament to benefit 3 local charities: our very own Backpack Buddies as well as Comfortcases.org & Freeze Bullying for Payton!  Time is running out to sign up! $10,000 hole-in-one prize!! Get your game on!

Backpack Buddies needs YOU!

We provide kid-friendly, non-perishable food to students over the weekend when school meals are not available and there may be little to no food to eat at home.  Each recipient meets  specific financial guidelines and, in addition, has been personally identified by school counselors as in need of food over the weekend.
We need your help to support these kids in the coming year.

Here's what you can do:

Contribute Financially:
Consider making a donation to the Program. You can send a check made out to VESPTO, clearly labeled with "Backpack Buddies" to school with your student.  For $380, you can "adopt" a backpack and provide weekend meals to a child in need for entire school year.  Group sponsorships are another great way to help!  Please consider asking your book club, Girl or Boy Scout Troop, bible study, neighbors, etc., to sponsor a backpack as a group!

Donate Food Directly:
We are always in need of direct donations to the pantry: soup, tuna, beans, peanut butter, canned fruit and vegetables and dry pasta and rice are always needed.  Contributing to the food bank is as easy as picking up an extra item on your weekly shopping trip. You can always send donations to school with your students.

Volunteer:
We need volunteers to collect and distribute backpacks, inventory the food shelf and pack backpacks every week!  Please email  [email protected] to sign up to help!

Spread the word:  Tell your neighbors and friends about the program and ask them to help! And follow Backpack Buddies  on Facebook!

Please help us ensure that no student returns to school on Monday hungry!  Childhood hunger is happening to kids in our neighborhood, but we can do something about it.  Please do what you can to help!
