The temperatures remain warm, but soon the leaves will begin to turn and Fall will be here. I hope that you and your students are back in the school mode as we begin the second month of our school year. I am honored to represent the Fremd Viking Booster Club as President this year. Our Mission is simple:
T
o enhance Fremd High School student experiences by raising funds and
providing support services for academic, athletic and cultural programs.
In order to fulfill its mission the Boosters need your help. The strength of any organization is its members and the support of its community. Last year, the Viking Booster Club donated $80,000 to Fremd High School and its students in support of Fremd administration's "wish" list. This funding supported the needs of the many organizations at Fremd that might otherwise go un-funded within the operating budget of the school. Just to name a few, last year's list included: equipment for automotive technology, poms costumes, production costs for Viking Theatre, cameras for the Viking Logue, training equipment for school gym classes, and honorariums for Writers Week. In addition, Boosters provided eighteen $1,000 scholarships to seniors who were eligible because their families were Booster members. Finally, Fremd's post prom event is arguably the most envied post prom event in the area. More than 700 juniors and seniors attended post prom this past spring at Navy Pier's Lakeview Terrace. Next year, post prom will have a new date and location. In one way or another, I am sure that the Viking Booster Club donations impact every student at Fremd.
Membership
. With this school year now in focus, I want to thank the more than 900 families for your annual $25 membership. I would ask each of you to spread the word about the Viking Booster Club and act as ambassadors to increase our membership. If each of us could take on the goal of recruiting just one new family to become a member, then the Boosters would have even more resources to support Fremd and its students. Joining as a new member is easier than ever at our NEW WEBSITE, fremdboosterclub.org. Our parent volunteers are doing a great job of building our new site, and we believe it will serve the Booster Club and Fremd families for many years.
Dinner Dance
. The signature event of the school year is the Viking Booster Dinner Dance on Saturday, February 11, 2017. This is the 22nd annual event, and we have a new date and a familiar location. Hundreds of items will be available through live and silent auctions. The support of the community and local businesses has made this event the largest fundraiser for the Booster Club, so please mark your calendar today, and plan to attend. If you cannot attend, please consider making a donation of goods or services for the auction. As noted above, the proceeds from this event, in addition to the Booster's other fundraising activities, especially our Craft Fairs, supports and benefits all Fremd students. So gather your family and friends for a memorable night supporting a great cause... our kids!
The success of the Viking Booster Club reflects the combined efforts of all our Fremd families. With your continued involvement, Fremd will maintain its excellence in academic, cultural and athletic programs. Thank you for supporting the Fremd Viking Booster Club! Go Vikings!
