Neighbors Helping Neighbors Age in Place
Newsletter of
Northeast Village PDX
Northeast Village PDX is a group of neighbors in Northeast Portland, Oregon, who are creating a membership organization that will help seniors in the area stay in their own homes as they age - by providing volunteers to help with rides, simple home repairs,  friendly visits, and light yard work, as well as professional services (plumbing, electrical, care giving and others) at reduced rates. This newsletter will keep you up to date on the steps the Village is taking to achieve its goals.

Northeast Village Now Open for Business
Our Village opened officially on November 1, after three years of planning and development.

Concurrently, our new office also opened, and is staffed by volunteers Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 3:30.

As of opening day, we had 62 members (20 Full-Service and 42 Associates), and 38 trained volunteers already signed up. We are thrilled at this level of interest from both members and volunteers in the village.  And as of this printing, we now have 65 members (21 Full Service Members and 44 Associate Members). We are also pleased to report that 18 of our members have also signed up as Charter Members.

(Note: There are ONLY 50 days (or less) to get your Charter Membership, which is a donation of $500 or more by December 31, 2016!  Your Charter status freezes your annual membership fee through 2020 as well as includes you in a Charter Member Party coming in January 2017!  Just let us know and we can get you the Charter status.)

We've already had 26 service requests for the month of November, and more are coming in. Our volunteers are enthusiastic and ready to help. So please give us a call if you are a full service member.

On October 19 we held an orientation and get-acquainted meeting for our members, and a work session to learn what programs and activities would be desired.   As a result, a new, enlarged Program Committee is now getting organized.

A big thank you to all of you who donated items and provided muscle power to move furniture, paint, set up desks and computers to help us get the office up and running. You will receive a personal thank you from us soon!

Some of you who live nearby have already dropped in to the office to say hello. You are welcome to come during office hours (9-3:30 weekdays) and don't forget to come for the open house on Saturday, November 19th from 1-4 pm.

Our Membership and Volunteer committees are continuing to accept applications, which are available on our website: www.nevillagepdx.org.

Open House at our New Office:  Nov 19 1-4 pm
Saturday, November 19 from 1-4 pm.

Location: 5012 NE 42 nd Ave in the Cully neighborhood.

Come see our new office, meet our volunteers and members, enjoy refreshments, and possibly win a door prize.   The Open House is "open" to all - not just members.

Members-Only Section on Website
With the opening of our Village on Nov 1, we have added a Members-Only section to our website.

When members sign in, they will have access to our Recommended Vendors list and membership directory with contact information. Members will also find benefits and services offered, contact forms to recommend new vendors and a format to suggest programs & activities. A discussion forum is under development for members to share ideas and new information.

We encourage members to use this section, and provide suggestions for other information or additions.

New members have been provided with the password to access this section, but any members who do NOT have the password should call the office at 503-895-2750 or contact the webmaster.
