FEATURED WINES
Wine to Pair with Taxes - Staff Picks
Doug's Pick:
2016 Jean Foillard, Beaujolais Villages
We know Jean Foillard as one of the Kermit Lynch's gang of four. The group of young vignerons that reinvented Beaujolais under the tutelage of Jules Chauvet. Foillard's expressions of gamay from sites in Morgon have a depth and elegance that is not common in wines from anywhere else in the region and his newest endeavor, a Beaujolais Villages designated wine is no different. It sources fruit from throughout Beaujolais and features floral, red fruited aromas, bright acidity and would is phenomenal with a slight chill. This is a wine that wishfully looks to the end of winter. - $26.99
Dave's Pick:
2017 Barter and Trade, Sauvignon Blanc
Andrew Jones is one of the hottest young winemakers in California. His 'Field Recording' line covers common and uncommon varietals and styles alike. The 'Barter and Trade' line literally started as a business deal, trading wine barrels for Washington state grapes. So why Sauvignon Blanc? This is not only an uncommon varietal for Washington but it's easy for any wine drinker to get in a Sauvignon rut this time of year. Andrew's version is rich and fresh with a style all its own. - $16.99
Madison's Pick:
2016 Weingut Tement, Sauvignon Blanc, Sudesteiermark, Austria
Fresh lemon and lime, a touch of smoke, and a little bit of that herbaceous grassiness that so classically defines sauvignon blanc. Lean and minerally. This wine is summertime in a bottle. Weingut Tement is a family affair - the estate, founded in 1979 and farmed organically, is run by father Armin and his two sons. -$24.99
Patti's Pick:
2015 Zuccardi, Serie A Bonarda
Bonarda is one of those varietals that has a convoluted name. A number (3+) of varietals in Italy all go by the name Bonarda. Oddly enough, Bonarda from Argentina is most closely related to what we know as Charbono in California - AND - Charbono is also known as Douce Noir in Savoie (France). Talk about an identity crisis. However, in Argentina Bonarda is coming into it's own. As it's the second most widely planted grape in Argentina behind Malbec, there are plenty of single varietal expressions to be had. Zuccardi is well known for it's dedication to creating wines with unique expressions of terroir. Their bottling of Bonarda showcases dark fruits like blackberries and plums, soft tannins, food friendly acidity, with subtle spice, and a nod to chocolate on the finish. Serve with grilled meats or drink it by the fire this weekend because it's supposed to snow again...ugh! - $16.99
